|Lexus Europe has announced the availability of the updated CT 200h by the first quarter of next year. The Lexus CT 200h has enjoyed overwhelming response domestically and accounted for 60 percent of Lexus Malaysia’s total sales volume.|
2014 Lexus CT 200h in recognizable elements
With the 2014 Lexus CT200h, a fresh front fascia is incorporated with the familiar ‘spindle’ grille and a forwarded center portion with a more 3-D effect. The bottom corners are spaced wider and the spindle ‘pinch point’ has been lowered, reinforcing the CT 200h’s low front profile and wide track. At the side, the hatch has slightly protruding wheel arches, front and back, and the obvious shoulder line for an aerodynamic sentiment and to exude a wider stance. Also available when viewed from the side is the shark fin styled roof antenna. From the rear, a new horizontal bumper is instilled, plus the L-shaped reflector housings and black lower center section. For the F-Sport CT200h, the spindle grille gets a mesh pattern. An exclusive roof spoiler is added to the rear, while 17-inch 10-spoke wheels complete its sporty demeanor; and correspondingly, the regular CT 200 h gets smaller wheels either 15- or 16-inch.
Interior-wise, the 2014 Lexus CT200h gets a larger steering that measure 370mm; similar to that of the IS range. And that’s not all; the CT 200h’s interior refinements include the 4.2” TFT screen that links to the multimedia system, Steering with mounted switches, the Lexus Media display with Premium Navigation and rear view monitor, Bamboo loudspeakers (world’s first), tyre pressure warning system and traction control ‘Off’ switch.
The cabin houses a new door panel insert with insert finishes, including Shimamoku wood and metal film finish for the center console controls. The car’s revised upholstery range now include Topaz Brown leather (new), and updated Red, Brown and Ocean Blue fabrics.
For F-Sport CT 200h, the seats, aluminium pedals, scuff plates, a perforated leather steering, dimpled leather shift lever and badging are all exclusive interior features for the top-of-the-line version. Five exclusive color schemes are complimented by a choice of 4 insert finishes, including Shimamoku wood or F SPORT-exclusive Silver Metal Film. Full leather upholstery with color stitching is also available, in a choice of Black or Dark Rose.
Re-mapped hybrid drive system for improved emissions on the 2014 Lexus CT 200h
The hybrid drive system’s transmission control has been re-mapped. A more linear build-up of engine revs now more closely matches the increase in vehicle speed to create a driving experience more akin to that of a conventional automatic transmission. Complementing the inherent quietness of the Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain, no less than 94 separate measures have been adopted to further reduce NVH. A 1.8-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor through an Electronic-CVT gives the CT 200h an output of 134 horsepower, which is combined with instant torque produced by the electric drive motor and E-CVT. At the same time, a second motor in the hybrid system serves as both engine starter and generator to charge the hybrid battery pack.
The updated hybrid drive emits lesser carbon at 6 g/km from 94 to 88 g/km on the CT 200h with 16-inch wheels and an even lower emissions of 5 g/km on the CT 200h with 15-inch wheels.
Further improvement to body rigidity is thanks to additional spot welding and the extensive use of structural adhesive technology. The re-tuned suspension with optimized coil spring rates, along with a new shock absorber and rear stabilizer ensure optimum ride comfort and handling agility. The F-Sport CT 200h, on the other hand, takes up bespoke coil spring settings and optimized front/rear roll rigidity for an even sturdier handling aspect.
The 2014 CT 200h, one of five hybrids offered by Lexus, is available in a choice of 11 body colors including a new Red, while the F-sport is offered in 9 exterior colous includes new Red and White Nova.
