2016 Veloster Turbo R-Spec, front Hyundai has announced the new Veloster Coupe Rally Edition at the ongoing Chicago Auto Show, along with the 2016 Veloster and Veloster Turbo range. The Rally-edition Veloster Coupe builds upon Veloster Turbo R-Spec enthusiast credentials, with a more performance-focused suspension, RAYS lightweight wheels with wide 225/40R18 tyres, carbon-fiber-look aero accents, unique badging and floor mats.

Limited to only 1,200 units in all, the 2016 Rally-edition Veloster comes in Matte Blue paint and is available at Hyundai U.S. dealerships from May. At a glance, the Rally-edition Veloster Coupe features a carbon-fiber look aero accents or aerokit, Rally-edition badging, RAYS lightweight 18-inch wheels with all-season tyres, and that unmistakable Matte Blue Paint.

On the inside, the Rally edition Veloster has special floor mats and B&M Racing sport shifter to go along with the 6-speed manual transmision.

As a performance-oriented car, the Rally-edition Veloster is instilled a higher performance tune for the springs, dampers, and front stabilizer bar, for even more responsive and precise handling capabilities.

The updated Hyundai Veloster and Veloster Turbo

In profile, the Veloster features “Fluidic Sculpture” character lines, muscular wheel arches, bodycolor door handles and mirrors, and wraparound headlights and rearlights. Veloster’s dynamic rear design has a distinctive glass hatch and dual center-fascia chrome exhaust tips that complement the assertive front fascia. Stock standard wheels are 17-inchers, while black seats with yellow accents give the interior of the Veloster that contemporary effect.

On the Turbo, the Veloster offers two distinctive, free-flowing round exhaust tips. Further, the Turbo versions feature Active Sound Design, providing richer in-cabin powertrain sound character for an even more involving driving experience, especially during spirited driving.

Inside the Veloster Turbo, leather seating surfaces with Turbo embroidering on the side bolsters help deliver a distinctive appearance while providing higher levels of comfort and support. For 2016, orange-accented seat bolsters are available with Ultra Black and Vitamin C exterior colors on the turbo model, and the turbo-exclusive electroluminescent gauge cluster has been enhanced, offering the driver information in a larger, clearer and more interactive format, with a larger TFT screen located between the tachometer and speedometer. Heated front seats are also standard on the Turbo version. All Velosters come with a standard 7-inch touchscreen.

With direct-injection, the standard Gamma 1.6-liter engine with manual transmission delivers a peak output of 138 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and maximum torque of 166 Nm (123 lb.-ft.) at 4,850 rpm. On the other hand, the Gamma engine on the Veloster Turbo with 7-speed dual-clutch transmission delivers 132 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 162 Nm (120 lb.-ft.) of torque at 4,850 rpm. The Gamma also features Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing, an electronic throttle control, a roller timing chain, variable induction and innovative anti-friction coatings.

The R-spec Veloster Turbo gets 6-speed manual transmission with short-throw B&M Racing Sport Shifter. On outlook, the R-spec emblem is featured on the rear hatch to give it that definitive look compared to the regular Turbo Velosters. Three exterior colors are valid for the R-spec; Elite White, Ultra Black and Pacific Blue.

Inside, red seats belts and leatherette bolsters with red/black cloth inserts complement special embroidered-logo R-Spec floor mats for a sporty ambience.

All Veloster Turbo versions offer Torque Vectoring Control (TVC). This active cornering feature, utilizing capabilities from the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and powertrain control systems.

Veloster and Veloster Turbo are fitted with a McPherson strut front suspension, coil springs, gas shock absorbers and a 23-mm diameter front stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is a light-weight V-torsion beam, with an integrated 24-mm stabilizer bar to allow bracing of the arms for greater rigidity and to further control body roll. The rear suspension also uses monotube shock absorbers for ride comfort with control.

Safety equipment on the 2016 Velosters include six airbags, ABS with Brake Assist, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), and the Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system, which optimally manages ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and the Motor-Driven Power Steering (MDPS).

Last but least, all 2016 Velosters have upgraded audio/navigation systems and the Connected Care and Hyundai Blue Link suite.
