Honda Malaysia today announced the availability of the 2017 Jazz with a Sport Hybrid variant. The revised Honda Jazz is also available in a petrol version. Roll out for the petrol version is expected this quarter, while the Sport Hybrid goes out in quarter three.
In looks, the 2017 Jazz takes up new Chrome front grille, fresh front and rear bumpers, dual-tone color alloy wheels and LED DRLs.
Moving inside, the sub-compact is offered with Smart Entry, push start switch, semi-leather seats and a reverse camera. As always, the updated Jazz has the signature Ultra Seats. The Ultra Seats offer 4 modes (Utility, Long, Tall and Refresh) for versatility, convenience and extra space.
With the introduction of the Sport Hybrid for the Honda Jazz Hybrid variant, Honda Malaysia becomes the only country outside of Japan to introduce Honda’s new intelligent Dual-Clutch Drive (i-DCD) Hybrid system.
The 2017 Jazz Hybrid is equipped with a new 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine, paired to a 7-Speed Dual Clutch transmission with integrated High Power Motor to promote smooth acceleration and efficiency. Moreover, the independent positioning and functionality of the motor and the engine in the Jazz Hybrid allows the vehicle to develop Electric Vehicle (EV) mode drivability and elongate the sustenance of regenerative energy.
The Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) of the 2017 Jazz Hybrid is made of Lithium ion (Li-ion) battery which has a higher capacity. The battery is integrated under the boot floor area without compromising the seat versatility. Compared to its predecessor [the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system], the IPU is power packed, giving double its system output and 1.5 times its energy capacity while being lighter and more compact in size. The capacity of the IPU to withhold power for a longer period of time allows prolonged utilization of EV mode.
The combined horsepower of both the system and engine for the Jazz Hybrid is at 137PS which is equivalent to 1.8-liter engine output. The petrol version utilizes a similar 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine with CVT, from the current generation.
Handling, meanwhile, is much improved thanks to some fine tuning to the electric power steering.
Safety is never compromised in the Jazz; for the 2017 edition, the customary features are; Brake Assist (BA), Anti-Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), 6 Airbags and ISOFIX.
The 2017 Honda Jazz will be on display at the Carlis-MAA Drive, Test & Buy event this weekend (13th-14th May) at Setia City Convention Center (Hall 1 & 2) between 10am to 10pm.
