|Nasim, distributors of Peugeot Cars, today announced the Peugeot 208 GTi for the domestic compact performance market. The 208 GTi was unveiled at Nasim’s 27th dealership at the Old Klang road, just opposite of the popular OUG (Overseas Union Garden) quarters.|
Peugeot 208 GTi takes up a very conducive price tag
Last month, Motorsportchannel.com had received a pre-launch estimated pricing for the 208 GTi at RM 145,000. In today’s announcement, Nasim revealed a very interesting on-the-road with insurance price tag of RM 139,888 for the locally assembled 208 GTi.
The Peugeot 208 GTi takes over the reins of the then popular 205 GTi after a span of a quarter of a century. It thus propagates Peugeot’s burgeoning interests in the performance cars segment, as well as motorsports. A glance around the 208 GTi entails dynamic contours from the 3D ‘floating’ chequered flag-design grille engraved with Peugeot Red to piano black inserts and chrome highlights at the rear. The re-modelled headlights and the GTi’s signature rear spoiler, plus geometric exhaust add an exciting finishing touch. At the side, the prominent GTi badge in striking red and chrome recalls back to its original predecessor, the 205 GTi. Dual-tone 17-inch ‘carbon’ wheel and tyre complete the 208 GTi’s sporty demeanor.
Interior-wise, the Peugeot 208 GTi has all the hallmarks of a compact performance. A black color scheme with red accents across the doors and dashboard accentuates the Peugeot 208 GTi’s interior. From the seat belts to the steering wheel insert, the unique GTi theme is well highlighted. Further interior highlights include the ‘floating’ or ‘Head Up’ instrument panel with red LEDs around the gauges, chequered dial backgrounds of black and aluminium, and the 7″ multi-function color touch screen. For upholstery, the Peugeot 208 GTi gets Club Nappa leather with Caro Weave Fabric seats; more inclined towards the front seats.
Taking up the 1.6-liter turbocharged powerplant that’s paired to a close ratio 6-speed manual transmission, the 1.16 ton hot hatch does 200 bhp easy and a 0-100 km/h dash in about 6.8 seconds.
Safety features are aplenty in the Peugeot 208 GTi including; airbags, two at the front and four along each side, cruise control and speed limiter (5 pre-set speeds) via switches on the steering, and the ESP (Electronic Stability program). The ESP enables the car to detect the first signs of a sideways skid and helps reduce over steer. It keeps the car on course by reducing engine power and braking individual wheels. A first for the Peugeot 208 GTi is the Smart Park Assist, the system helps driver to parallel park as the driver needs only to control the accelerator pedal, clutch and brakes. The Smart Park Assist then steers itself automatically.
The Peugeot 208 GTi is available in two color options: Digital White and the astonishingly captivating Rogue Red. Nasim plans to deliver about 20 – 30 Peugeot 208 GTi a month. As of September, Nasim has delivered close to 5,000 vehicles with 30 percent drawing from its compact variant, the Peugeot 208; 35 percent from the Peugeot 308 and 408; and the remaining percentage from its D-segment and Sports variants such as the Peugeot 508, 508 GT, 508 GT SW and RCZ.
