|Honda Malaysia today premiered the 9th Generation Accord for the domestic market at the Setia Alam Convention Center.|
The newest Honda flagship variant is expected to carry on the previous generation’s unprecedented track record in the large sedan segment. Since the first generation Accord made debut in 1976, the large sedan from Honda has been a favorite amongst large sedan buyers. Approximately 51,500 units have been delivered in this country.
The motto for the 9th-gen Honda Accord is ‘Man Maximum, Machine Minimum’, which pretty much translates to people-centric, drivability and only the integral equipment are included. Honda Malaysia relays the new Accord’s USPs as such; sophistication, quality, luxury and advanced technology.
At a glance, the 9th-gen Accord is more compact compared to its predecessor at 4,870 mm in length, 1,465 mm in height with a wheelbase at 2,775 mm. As for the exterior motifs, the Dynamic Intelligent sedan package and familiar V-shaped aerodynamic contours have been inherited from the previous generation. The highlights on the front fascia consist of the LED headlights with daytime running lights and Active Cornering lights (2.4-liter only), the familiar chromed bespoke grille, black mesh bottom grille and rectangle-shaped foglights. Wheel and tyre sizes consist of 17-inch for the 2.0-liter and 18-inch for the 2.4.
At the side, the shoulder lines on the edges of the doors give the car a muscular, yet aerodynamically savvy persona. The rear of the Accord has the LED lights and the unmistakable chrome panel on the edge of the boot lid. Honda also added a rounded exhaust and a chrome strip on the skid plate area to further enhance the rear look. The Modulo Accord is included with the necessary extensions, matching color skid plate and rear spoiler for that sporty and dynamic appeal.
The Honda Accord 9th generation shines brightest on the inside. In order to ensure absolute cabin quietness, Honda has included a torsional chassis, even enhanced the car’s NVH with Active Noise control and Active Sound Control which cancel out external noise and low-frequency sound. Many innovative firsts have been included in the new Accord, for example; the Lane Watch camera, Blind-spot visual on the standard 8-inch screen i-MID with two types of mini touch screens (just below the display), Multi-angle Rearview camera, and an Expanded View driver’s mirror, plus Emergency Stop Light signal and One Touch Lane Change.
Earth Dreams Technology is the core competency in the new Accord’s powertrain department. The highest grade 2.4-liter Accord engine, mated to 5-speed automatic transmission with Shift Hold, powers up to 175 PS at 6,200 rpm and 225 Nm at 4,000 rpm, while the 2.0-liter powertrain gives 155 PS at 6,500 rpm and 190 Nm at 4,300 rpm. The new Accord 2.4’s fuel consumption has been brought down by 7 percent, thanks a 6 percent kerb weight reduction. Meantime, the 2.0-liter sees a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy. The ECON mode, a customary feature in current Honda variants, is combined with the Eco Assist along with Drive By Wire for even better fuel efficiency.
Improved suspension settings for the new Accord like the front’s MacPherson struts and rear’s Multi-link ensure utmost stability and a more dynamic handling characteristic. The MacPhersons comprise sturdier dampers and reworked points for further reliability.
An abundance of safety features for the new Accord include; the ABS, VSA with Traction Control, Brake Assist, Dual front i-SRS Airbags, i-Side Airbags with (OPDS) Occupant Position Detection System ( for 2.4l), Hill Start Assist, ISOFIX and E-Pretentioner Seatbelts, as well as an ACE body structure.
Five colors are valid for the 9th-gen Honda Accord: Modern Steel Metallic, Champagne Frost Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, Taffeta White and Alabaster Silver. The 2.0 VTi and VTi-L retail for RM139,800 and RM 149,800, while the 2.4 VTi-L goes for RM 172,800. All prices are on-the-road with insurance and include a 5-year/100,000km warranty.
