BMW Active Hybrid range
The first two BMW Active Hybrids – Active Hybrid 3 and 5 – were revealed in October last year. With the BMW Active Hybrid 7L, the 7 Series line-up now comprises the three variants which included the BMW 730Li and 740Li.
Exterior-wise, the BMW Active Hybrid 7L is cloaked in M trimmings for obvious sporty and dynamism reasons. The front fascia’s all-LED headlight clusters, the familiar BMW kidney grille and honeycomb, black mesh housings at the bottom portion present a more versatile 7 Series when compared to the 730Li or 740Li. A sloping rear silhouette, taut line, signal light integrated into exterior mirror casing, and the Active Hybrid 7 insignia define the side. At the rear, the major highlight is a redesigned bumper apron with a chrome trim strip between the lights. Standard M Aerodynamics exterior package and M wheels complete the Active Hybrid 7 overall impression.
The exterior highlights are carried into the upgraded interior with optimized soundproofing and improved ride comfort. Furthermore, the Active Hybrid 7’s in-car entertainment is the state-of-the-art Bang & Olufsen high-end surround sound system, with 16 loudspeakers and an illuminated center loudspeaker that can be retracted into the instrument panel. Related interior inputs consisted; on-board 10.25-inch Multifunctional Instrument display and circular meters.
Driver and passengers comfort is a sure thing thanks to plush leather seats with electrically adjustable individual seats. As for the rear passengers, they travel in style too as the freestanding 9.2 inch flat screens provide endless possibilities on long journeys.
Utilizing the same petrol powerplant as the BMW 740Li, the BMW ActiveHybrid 7L is further augmented by an electric motor which delivers an additional output of 40kW/55 hp, for a total combined output of 260 kW/354 hp. This allows the almost 2-ton car to deliver a 0 – 100km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds. Fuel consumption and emissions get a respectable 6.8 litres per 100km (combined) and 158 grams per km. Thanks to the Active Hybrid 7 intelligent management system, BMW claims that the latest Active Hybrid offers up to 27 percent lower fuel consumption.
Active Hybrid 7 drive modes
The Sport, Comfort, ECO Pro drive modes and Brake Energy regeneration, managed by the car’s intelligent management system, are carried forward to the Active Hybrid 7. All modes are easily access via the Driving Experience Control on the center console. The newest BMW Active Hybrid, however, has a new coasting drive mode, which is designed to decouple the combustion engine when it is overrunning at speeds between 50 and 160 km/h. The coasting function is clearly visualized for the driver’s benefit in the multifunctional instrument cluster and the central display, and can also be deactivated if desired. Other standard features and driver’s assistance systems include Auto Start/Stop, Night Vision + Dynamic Light Spot and High Beam Assist with Anti-Dazzle.
Safety features, always paramount at BMW, comprise of the overall Active Protection which encompasses tightening of seatbelts, and closing of windows and the sliding roof when it detects that a collision is imminent, and monitoring of driver’s fatigue levels.
From 30 March, the BMW Active Hybrid 7L will be available at BMW showrooms nationwide at a retail price of RM 938,800.00, including BMW Service + Repair, without insurance. Existing 7 Series variants, 730Li and 740Li are priced at RM 648,800.00 and RM 818,800.00.
