|Mazda Motor Corporation today announced the start of pre-orders for the all-new Mazda3 or Axela in its home country of Japan. The new Mazda3 starting price kicks off at 1,711,500 yen up till 2,982,000 yen. Mazda Motor Corporation (MMC) expects to deliver up to 3,000 units of the new Mazda3 on a monthly basis.|
As you may have already known, the new Mazda3 is the third variant to take up the “KODO – Soul of Motion” design theme and SKYACTIV Technology platform after the CX-5 and Mazda6. The all-new Mazda3 is slated to arrive to Malaysia at the end of the first quarter next year, according to Mazda Malaysia/Bermaz Motor.
All-new Mazda3; third variant to take up KODO – Soul of Motion
The all-new Mazda3 has these exterior “KODO” motifs: lowered and chiseled solid metal signature wing, the recognizable 5-point grille, and side and rear profiles that resemble the Atenza (Mazda6) very closely. MMC announced that there are eight body colors for the 3rd-generation Axela (Mazda3), including two new colors Titanium Flash Mica and Deep Crystal Blue Mica.
Interior-wise, the 3rd-gen Mazda3 is all about driver’s space and a spacious cabin, as well as an open feel. A single round meter is aligned with the central axis of the steering wheel and the driver’s body inducing a feeling of unity between car and driver. At a single glance, the futuristic interior and high-contrast design (Piano Black and Satin Chrome, Off-White and Black, etc.) convey a high-quality feel worthy of a class above.
Mazda Connect appears on the new Mazda3 for the first time
Furthermore, the all-new Axela marks the introduction of Mazda Connect, the company’s unique car-connectivity system. In the age of smartphones and tablet computers, people expect to be able to connect to the internet anywhere, anytime. Based on Mazda’s unique Heads-Up Cockpit concept, Mazda Connect was designed with the highest priority placed on safety.
For the Japanese market, the new Mazda3 include exclusive XD grade items valid for the 2.2-liter diesel version such as; an exclusive front grille with a red pinstripe pattern on the upper part of the signature wing, a special Piano Black rear bumper, LED fog lamps, reflective aluminum alloy wheels, a smooth leather steering wheel accentuated by red cross-stitching, and exclusive Suede or leather seats.
Naturally, the new Mazda3 inherits the spirit of ‘Jinba Ittai’ – responsive driving deepens the feeling of unity between car and driver with every kilometer. The steering wheel, pedals and other controls involved in operating the vehicle are positioned so the driver’s joints are maintained at a relaxed and natural angle that makes it easy to react quickly and accurately.
The new Mazda3 sees the front wheels push forward 50mm to open up more space in the driver’s footwell. The wheelhouse no longer dictates the position of the accelerator pedal, allowing for optimal positioning of the pedals. Excellent visibility is attained by positioning the base of the A-pillars 100mm further back, compared to the previous generation. The new seat structure enlarges the area that contacts the driver’s hips, helping the driver to maintain a correct driving posture. These updates give the driver a more effective control especially on cornering and acceleration. And thanks to a more sturdy suspension settings for the diesel Mazda3, the car even gets a sportier ride.
All-new Mazda3 engine options
The new Mazda3 is offered in the base version 1.5-liter petrol, 2.0-liter petrol, 2.2-liter diesel (on par with a 4.0l V8 petrol), and a 2.0-liter Hybrid with an electric motor that enables 30.8 km per liter under JC08 mode. All versions are paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission, except the hybrid which is instilled with a CVT (continuously variable electronic transmission).
