|Euromobil/Audi Malaysia has announced the new Audi A1 Sportback for the domestic market in a latest release. The Audi A1 5-door Sportback is slated to supersede the current 3-door A1 in the Audi M’sia’s Premium Compact Hatch segment.|
The Audi A1 Sportback shares many exterior similarities to its 3-door sibling, from head- to tail-lights. The front features the familiar large single-frame grille with its beveled upper corners. Xenons and wave-like LED daytime running lights are standard. The side of the car has protruding feeders front and rear, the engine hood line is joined to the shoulder line on the front door all the way to the rear lights nicely, and of course, the two-tone body and roof color. From the rear, the sculpted lights are equipped with SuperRed LEDs, while the chrome-edged skid plate with double exhaust and duck-tailed spoiler are the other highlights. Looking at the rim and wheel packages, the Audi A1 Sportback takes up 16-inch wheels on 215/45 /R16 tyres. With the S line upgrades, the A1 Sportback comes in larger 17-inch alloy wheels from quattro Gmbh, S line sports suspension and leather & cloth combination upholstery.
In terms of overall dimensions, the Audi A1 Sportback is taller, wider and has more inside space than the 3-door A1. Measurement-wise, the Sportback is actually 6 mm taller and 6 mm wider, and the inside offers additional headroom of 11mm and shoulder room of 13 mm.
Inside the Audi A1 Sportback, the instrument panel, whose front slopes gradually toward the cabin, resembling an airplane wing immediately grabs the driver and passengers’ attention. The center console is inclined slightly toward the driver. Additionally, the interior features many high-end solutions in terms of controls and infotainment, including Audi Concert audio system with its 6.5-inch retractable monitor and SD card reader. The audio system serves as the foundation for options such as the connectivity package, which includes the Audi music interface (AMI) and Bluetooth audio streaming and a second SD card reader. The next step up is the optional technology package, which houses the MMI operating principle, a DVD drive, the AMI and MMI navigation with a hard disk that displays Hi-Res 3D graphics. For more effective sound, opt for the 14-speaker system with a digital audio tuner and 465-watt Bose surround sound.
Bootspace maintains a capacity of up to 270 liters, and when the rear seats are folded down the space increased to 920 liters. Surprisingly, the luggage space of the Audi A1 Sportback is unchanged from the 3-door A1 despite its larger dimensions.
A 1.4L TFSI 4-cylinder inline powerplant that is mated to a 7-speed S tronic transmission powers the Audi A1 Sportback to an output of 122hp at 5,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque between 1,500 – 4,000 rpm. Thanks to a rapid shifting gearbox, the A1 Sportback accomplishes 0 – 100km/h sprint in 9 seconds and a top speed of 203km/h. In terms of fuel efficiency and emissions, the A1 Sportback offers 5.3l per 100kms and 122 gram per km.
The compact hatch’s handling and stability rely on front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam, whilst the latest generation Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with electronic axle differential keep the A1 Sportback planted at all times. Ventilated front discs ensure adequate stopping power whenever the situation requires.
