Honda, Volkswagen and Audi were big winners at the annual car awards presentation, each walked away with multiple awards. Honda swept three awards for the sub-compact car, Alternative Energy (Hybrid) and Judges’ Choice categories, while the two Deutsches Marken (German marques) Volkswagen and Audi won a total of four honors: mid-sized passenger, premium MPV, premium compact and the Overall COTY.
Veteran judges were picked to do trial runs for each nominated variants. Following a majority vote, the Honda CR-z was selected as the Judges’ choice for the year. The criterias for best-in-category and overall COTY honors followed a unique scoring matrix, which combined scores from the judges and online members’votes. The scores breakdown depicted 80 percent from the pool of 8 judges and 20 percent from online voters.
The Audi A4 was the surprise winner of the overall COTY. The honor represented the first time that the four-ring brand from Ingolstadt, Deutschland had been recognized in the domestic automotive scene. “We are most proud to receive the Autoworld Overall Car of the Year Award,” expressed Tan Ju-Leen, Marketing Manager of Euromobil. “The A4 has been one of the bread and butter variant for Audi the world over, including Malaysia. We would like to thank the judges and online voters for acknowledging that the A4, with its many features, can possibly be the best choice for premium passenger car buyers.”
The awards saw 31 variants from a myriad of automotive manufacturers and distributors compete in 17 categories. In the SUV/Crossover category, the Mazda CX-5 was recognized as the best for its segment due to its contemporary KODO design, SKYACTIV technologies, innovative features and value-for-money preposition. General Manager Ms Lee Ai Hoon accepted the award on behalf of Bermaz Motor.
