The ASC is the centerpiece for showcasing the ‘best-of-the-best’ young ASEAN talents. The platform provides the impetus for participating Asian countries to develop motivated and high-performing skilled workers. The 2016 ASC promotes the development of 25 skills area in the Asian region and subsequently at International level (World Skills Competition).
The Skills competition is held every two years and member countries take turn to host the event. This year, the 11th edition of the ASC is slated for Malaysia, from 23 – 28 September at MAEPS (Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang). Participants are expected to come from neighboring countries like Indonesia, Phillippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
In the competition, nine finalists will be selected from the automotive technology category, based on five specific skills: Engine Management System, Gearbox, Steering, Suspension & Brakes, Engine overhauling and Electrical system.
In view of this special sponsorship of the ASC, Bermaz Motor has granted the organizers six units of the second-generation Mazda3, which four units are to be utilized for ASC roadtours. The other two Mazda3 will be utilized in the competition to assess the skills and aptitude of the finalists.
Bermaz Motor has always been a strong advocate of youth development, especially in the automotive industry. Its main Apprenticeship program, the Mazda Apprenticeship Program (MAP) is a proven automotive skills training program for school leavers since 2010. MAP is appointed by the Dept. of Skill Development Institute of Motor Industry Awards Ltd., U.K. and Mazda Motor Corporation as one of the Accreditation Center on Motor Vehicle Mechanic Training provider. Graduates of MAP gets the Malaysia skill certificate, Diploma and Mazda Master Level F. What’s more graduates get full -timeemployment as technicians with Bermaz Motor’s After-sales division for a minimum of 3 years.
The Mazda3, sponsored by Bermaz Motor, is based on the 1.6 version, prior to the current SKYACTIV version. The six Mazda3s are liveried with the ASC’s mascot, a Tiger, as well as an array of World Skills ASEAN and appropriate organizers’ emblems.
