Hybrid cars, especially Plug-in hybrids are all the rage today. Manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo are spearheading their lineup with plug in hybrid models, the more mainstream the plug in hybrid concept has become. With that, brands are bucking up their efforts to support the ‘Plug-in Hybrid lifestyles’ by introducing the necessary support infrastructures. One such effort is BMW Group Malaysia’s recent introduction of 6 i Charging stations at the Bangsar Shopping Centre today.

BMW’s latest 6 charging stations are the latest addition from the existing charging stations which are located at the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Melaka, The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Ipoh, the Iconic Hotel in Penang as well as at WEIL Hotel in Ipoh With 7500 out of 14,338 BMW vehicles sold in Malaysia last year being plug in hybrids, BMW is the
leading provider of electrified premium cars in Malaysia.

While speaking at the event, Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director at BMW Group Malaysia said that besides pushing for local assembly capabilities and clean energy innovations, BMW Malaysia also has been working alongside with local partners like Green Tech Malaysia to set up infrastructures like the i-Charging stations to further promote the desirability of electrified vehicles.

With everything from the MINI’s to the BMW i8’s running the plug-in hybrid set up, its indeed a step in the right direction for BMW Group Malaysia to invest in such infrastructure both in urban and out of town area’s to allow owners to fully exploit the potential of their electrified vehicles. These and more such initiatives will take place in the foreseeable future, could we see a bigger rise in plug in hybrid BMW’s to hit our shores? Let’s watch this space!
