BMW Malaysia continues to lead the Premium segment in the country
The BMW, MINI and Motorrad marques under the BMW Group Malaysia umbrella combined for a 2012 cumulative delivered figure of 6,988 vehicles. Of the gross total, 6,318 units were made up of BMWs, 341 MINIs and 329 for Motorrad motorcycles, representing a spike of 13% from last year’s number of units delivered, which tallied a total of 5,604 units. Bulk of the cumulative units was also attributed to popular diesel variant – the BMW 320d, which constituted 20% of BMW’s total volume.
In fact, BMW took over the top spot in the premium segment from the Three-Point Star marque only last year. Contributing to BMW Malaysia’s growing performance is its network of dealerships which has grown steadily to 24 dealerships throughout the country comprising of 16 BMW dealerships, four MINI dealerships and four BMW Motorrad dealerships. Throughout the 2012 year, BMW Malaysia introduced four new BMW 4S (Sales, Service, Systems and Spare-parts) facilities in Setia Alam, Kuantan, Butterworth, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, as well as a MINI outlet in Bangsar and a new BMW Motorrad dealership in Kuantan.
The incremental figures were also complimented by the new variants of 2012, which included the BMW Active Hybrid range Active Hybrid 3 Series, Active Hybrid 5 Series; locally-assembled X3; and the 6 Series Gran Coupe. The Active Hybrid 3 Series and 5 Series were unveiled in October last year…
Aside from the recognition as a premium auto marque in this country, BMW Group Malaysia’s businesses which is headquartered in Cyberjaya encompass a Regional training center, Data center, Completely-knock Down (CKD) facility in Kulim, and a regional Parts distribution center at the Tanjung Pelepas Port, Johor.
According to Dr. Gerhard Pils, Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group Malaysia, “Last year was a historic milestone for us due to the solid performance of the group and we managed to meet and exceed benchmarks in all areas of our business. With new vehicles and activities lined up for 2013, our main aim will be to reinforce our position as the number one premium automaker here in the country.”
