|BMW Malaysia has unveiled the second-generation X1 with sDrive 20i, the Sportiest Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) yet from the Munich-based marque.|
The passing of the baton from the first-gen BMW X1 to the second gen X1 encapsulates a far-reaching maturing process clearly expressed in the design of both the exterior and interior of the SAV. At a glance, BMW X1 symbolizes ruggedness and athleticism with its dynamic wedge shape, angular wheel arches and a more central position of the occupant cell.
The X1’s front takes up the familiar kidney grille, along with the characteristic “six-eyed” appearance formed by the twin circular LED headlights and DRLs (daytime running lights). Also attached in the light package are the parking light, cornering light and adaptive light. Side profile of the X1 is accentuated by the 18-inch double-spoke wheels, courtesy of the standard Sport Line offering. From the rear, the wide taillights take prominence together with the LED lights and L-shaped light strips.
The X1’s rather obvious new additions are reserved for the interior, for example; the raised seating position (40 mm), larger rear legroom (37 mm), expandable boot space (505 to 1,550 liters), rear a/c, sports leather steering, sports seats, an electric parking brake and ample storage compartments.
As with all BMW variants, the BMW ConnectedDrive is a permanent fixture and on the 2nd-gen BMW X1, the suite includes ConnectedDrive Services, Apps, BMW Navigation Professional on a 6.5-inch touchscreen, iDrive controller, Smart device integration, Intelligent Parking with Park Assitant, Intelligent Emergency Call with Concierge Services and Remote Services.
The 2nd-gen BMW X1 uses a new powertrain that is the transverse-mounted four-cylinder engines from the BMW Group’s latest generation of power units. The engine is a 2.0-liter displacement unit and with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, is able to develop a maximum output of 192 hp and peak torque of 280 Nm. Its instantaneous pulling power enables acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds at a top speed of 225 km/h, with average fuel consumption rated 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers and emissions at 136 g/km.
Available in five distinguishing body hues, the BMW X1 second-gen comes in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey, Chestnut Bronze and Mediterranean Blue. On the inside, there’s a range of Leather Dakota upholstery color choices comprising Black, Red highlight and Mocha. The Premium SAV is tagged at a starting price of RM 279,800.00, including 5-year Unlimited Mileage Warranty and Free Scheduled Service Program.
