Two newest 5 Series to join BMW’s Premium line-up are the 530e M Sport and 520i Luxury, as announced last week by BMW Malaysia. The BMW 530e M Sport would retail for RM 338,800, while the 520i Luxury starts from RM 328,800.
With the ‘e’ denomination, the 530e is obviously a Plug-in Hybrid, echoing the success of the 330e. The M Sport package simply makes the car a little more aggressive and sportier.
The BMW 530e M Sport is framed by BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line and is accentuated by the ornamental kidney grille with Active Air Stream for optimum aerodynamics. The M designation meanwhile sits on the front side panel. The New BMW 530e M Sport also features LED fog lights and adaptive LED headlights as a standard and is combined with BMW Selective Beam. Completing the exterior are 19-inch M light alloy Double-Spoke 664 M wheels in black with mixed tyres, as well as M Sport brake with blue-painted brake callipers and two-sided exhaust tailpipe finishers with a trapezoidal design..
Moving inside, the BMW 530e M Sport gets an M leather steering, M illuminated door sill finishers and M-specific pedals along with stylish sport seats. The car is furnished with Dakota Leather upholstery and the BMW Individual anthracite headliner. Further accentuating its athletic style are the interior trim finishers in Aluminium Rhombicle and highlight trim finishers in Pearl Chrome. Illumination within the car is provided by ambient lighting (11 types). 12.3” display with ConnectedDrive, Navigation, 4-zone air-conditioning and auto tailgate are standard features.
A 2.0-liter twin-turbo engine is combined with the BMW eDrive system for an output of 252hp and 420Nm of torque, enabling the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. With a top speed of 235 km/h, the BMW 530e M Sport consumes only 2.3l/100km of fuel with a lowered CO2 emission of 53g/km. The engine is paired with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission.
In terms of safety, the New BMW 530e M Sport benefits from the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) that is complemented by Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and the Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist. Driving Assistance is provided to the 530e M Sport via Lane Departure and Change Warning, front collision alert with brake intervention, rear collision prevention and crossing-traffic warning, as well as Cruise Control with braking function. The New BMW 530e M Sport is also equipped with the Parking Assistant for automatic parallel and perpendicular parking.
The BMW 530e M Sport is available in Black Sapphire or Sophisto Grey, paired with either the Black or Night Blue Leather Dakota upholstery; or in Bluestone or Alpine White paired with Black Leather Dakota upholstery.
The BMW 520i Luxury
The starting 5 Series, the 520i has been updated to a luxury version by virtue of exterior chrome optics, Leather Dakota upholstery and Sensatec dashboard.
A similar engine to the 530e is utilized, but the unit generates a lesser output (184hp/290Nm).
The BMW 520i Luxury comes complete with a variety of comfort features including Comfort Access, automatic air-conditioning with 4-zone control, Driving Assistance which also includes Cruise Control with braking function, Parking Assistant and rear view camera.
Color offerings for the BMW 520i Luxury include Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver, Imperial Blue or Alpine White, paired with Black Leather Dakota upholstery, featuring exclusive stitching in contrast Black.
