BMW Motorrad R 1200 GS 2013 BMW today introduced yet another Motorrad variant to its growing range, the new BMW R 1200 GS. The new BMW R 1200 GS carries all the trademarks of the BMW Motorrad Enduro, featuring the ruggedness and performance-oriented specifications.

At the front, the BMW R 1200 GS takes up the familiar ‘beak’ motif above the front wheel to the fuel tank and side trims panels through to the seat. Also at the front portion of the bike, a triple-section front panel carrier made of magnesium is instilled for weight reduction purposes; up to 60%. On the front panel the detailed instrument cluster, windshield adjustment and lighting emphasize that Enduro factor a whole lot greater. The R 1200 GS’ most innovative feature yet is the first-ever full LED headlight with integrated daytime running light; a standard feature for the available Dynamic and Touring packages. Completing the R 1200 GS package is the front’s 10-spoke 3″ wheels with 120/70 R19 tyre and rear’s 4.5″ with 170/60 R17 tyre.

The rider’s seat is now narrower and adjustable, also with tilt angle, to two heights. The passenger seat also comes with an option to select a position closer to the rider for supported stability and agility along with a ‘lean back’ convenience. A super-sized exhaust system with an electronically controlled exhaust flap is meant for performance aspects and that ‘earthy’ boxer sound.

The 2-cylinder boxer engine propels the BMW R 1200 GS to 125 bhp at 7700 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. The bike’s boxer engine utilizes air/liquid cooling, with the coolant oil replaced by glycol water mixture for effective heat absorption and dissipation purposes.

Another new feature of the BMW R 1200 GS is the the E-gas system. The E-gas system offers improved riding control and response as well as the new wet clutch system with eight friction discs, instead of the previous single-disc dry clutch, which are set to further enhance the power performance factor. Further weight reduction is made possible by integrating the gearbox and clutch in the engine housing.

Safety features of the BMW R 1200 GS include; Dynamic ESA, standard ABS, the semi-active suspension with a spring travel sensor and the Automatic Stability Control. There are five riding modes to boot; ‘Rain’, ‘Road’, ‘Dynamic’, ‘Enduro’ and ‘Enduro Pro’. Braking-wise, the R 1200 GS relies on Brembo Monobloc brake calipers at the front and a large disc brake at the rear.

To date, BMW Motorrad Malaysia has delivered 148 units of its premium motorcycles at the completion of the first quarter of the year, which represented a 17 percent spike from last year.

Gerhard Pils CEO of BMW Malaysia commented on the BMW R 1200 GS, “The ‘BMW GS’ concept has embodied riding pleasure and the desire for adventure for more than 30 years now and we are beginning a whole new chapter in the history of the GS with a new model of the most popular travel enduro. As the undisputed frontrunner in its segment and the bestseller within the BMW Motorrad model range, the all- new BMW R 1200 GS has been designed for enhanced top-level riding dynamics, setting a new benchmark for BMW Motorrad’s inventive strength as a trendsetter in this segment.”
