UMW Toyota Motor has announced a new Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad Kama Piah bin Che Othman, at a recent company cocktail event. Hamad who replaces Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin has over three decades of experience in unit trust management, investment management and corporate finance. He previously served as Permodalan Nasional Berhad’s group President and CEO.

Aiding Hamad is UMW Toyota Motor’s recently appointed President Ravindran Kurusamy, who’s been an incumbent at UMW Toyota Motor for 25 years. The Preisdent has served in various divisions in the company where he acquired wide ranging experience. Over the years, he has also built a close rapport with UMW’s joint venture partner, Toyota Motor Corporation.

Outgoing Chairman Asmat has been at the helm since 2001 since retiring from MITI(Ministry of International Trade and Industry). As a token of appreciation, Deputy Chairman Akio Takeyama expressed gratitude towards outgoing Chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin’ contribution. “His vast experience dealing with industries, especially the auto industry, while at MITI was beneficial to our company. With his guidance, we have been able to interact with the government in a more effective way, especially when it concerned policies and other activities which we wished to undertake.”

For the position of President, the deputy chairman also expressed gratitude for the previous incumbent Ismet Suki. Ismet was instrumental in introducing enhancement of facilities at Toyota outlets around the country in order to move customer service to a higher level. “This exercise was undertaken efficiently and systematically as Ismet has a good sense of planning and provided good ideas which inspired those involved in the work,” Takeyama added.

Also present at the cocktail event were Hiroyuki Fukui, Managing Officer Toyota Motor Corporation, Badrul Feisal Bin Abdul Rahim, President & Group CEO, UMW Holdings Bhd and guests from Toyota Motor Corporation, Toyota Motor Asia Pacific, Toyota affiliates from the Asia Pacific Region, senior government officials, representative from the Embassy of Japan, top management from the media and business partners.

UMW Toyota Motor is a joint-venture company established since 1982 by UMW Corporation with Toyota Motor Corporation and Toyota Tsusho Corporation. The company has been the assembler and distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the country.
