The Citroen DS3, previously previewed at the KLIMS ’13, is a natural premium B-segment contender. From every angle, the DS3 offers a commanding road presence. At the front-end, the sculpted hood blends succinctly well with the angular headlights. The signature grille is a mixture of chrome and black mesh elements, with a recognizable Citroen ‘boomerang’ insignia being an instant stand out. At the same time, the LED DRL (Daytime Running Light) strips beside the rounded foglights add a whole of character to the front-end.
A clean shoulder line and carbon tip at the bottom of the front door provide the DS3’s side profile a touch of class, while the compact rear window proportionately give an impression of a rather balanced City car. From the rear, the DS insignias are thoughtfully added to the center of the boot lid and each corner of the unique, rectangle-shaped rear LED lights. The DS3’s rear profile is also enhanced by a rear spoiler with third brake light, bottom bumper’s skid plate and a chromed exhaust. Furthermore, the Compact by Citroen is considered next-to-perfection, thanks to the 17-inch BellOne Black DiamondTipped wheels.
All the hallmarks of premium practicality inside the Citroen DS3
Inside, the atmosphere in the DS3’s cabin is one of class and contemporary elegance with an exceptional attention to detail and an extensive use of premium materials. A ‘raised’ dashboard design creates increased amounts of front leg room whilst the slender bucket-typed front seats and intelligent rear seat arrangements offer more than adequate space for occupants. The seats are made of ‘Mistral Claudia’ leather. Boot space spans 359 liters, and with the 60:40 split rear fold seats, the boot is able to accommodate up to 385 liters. Interior highlights include a cockpit-inspired driving position, a classy small-diameter steering and sport-styled instrument cluster with three conical dials that show the rpm, speed and fuel status. The dials’ arrows even include luminous blue tips. Other interior amenities include; cruise control, automatic rain sensitive wipers, electric folding & heating door mirrors, Hi-Fi Audio System with Bluetooth connectivity, automatic air-conditioning with digital numerals, and a convenient air refresher.
A 1.6-liter four cylinder engine, mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission, provides a decent 120hp at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 160 Nm at 4,250. The Citroen DS3 powers to a top speed of 190 km/h and tips the 0 – 100 km/h dash at 10.9 seconds. In line with Citroen’s efficiency motto, the DS3 is able to fulfill a fuel economy of 6.9l per 100km, whilst keeping emissions acceptable at 158 g/km.
When its comes to braking the Citroen DS3 doesn’t spare one bit, thanks to the standard ABS with EBD and EBA, and front ventilated and rear discs. Stability and handling are kept in check with the front MacPhersons and rear transverse beam. Standard safety features on board are; 6 airbags (front, Lateral & Curtain), ISOFIX Child Anchor, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and rear parking sensor.
