The latest version of Citroën’s city car is available in both three and five-door versions, as well as an open-top body style called Airscape. With dynamic lines and a cheerful front-end gaze, characterized by its headlights, the C1 is an immediate head-turner. The dynamic, lively styling is underlined by the visual continuity between the windscreen and side windows, with black windscreen pillars and, depending on trim level, chrome-finish weather strips.
C1 compact city car bears all the hallmarks of current Citroen variants
The front-end features two-part headlights and round inserts that create a smiling interface. Meanwhile, the C1’s vertical daytime running LED lights create a signature that emphasizes the car’s cheerful design and bold character. Lighting effects continue at the rear, with a glass tailgate and square lights creating a 3D effect. Although deemed a compact city car, the C1 has wide enough front and rear tracks. The C1 is measured 3.46m long, 1.62m wide, 1.45m tall and weighs in at a lean 840kg, with a small turning radius of 4.80m. At the same time, the new tyres with low rolling resistance and compact dimensions (14 and 15 inches) contribute to more effective braking and lower fuel consumption.
Interior-wise, bi-tone trimmings and a brightly colored scheme fill up the city car’s cabin. Designed with clean, structured lines, the dashboard features bright colors on the multimedia panel, air vent trim and gear lever base. The door panels also include body-colored inserts. Other interior highlights include a 7-inch touchscreen with reverse camera, keyless entry and start, ample storage compartments, heated seats with memory settings front seats for the 3-door version, and a boot that fits 196 liters and expandable to 780 liters. For the Airscape C1, there’s a large soft top which sweeps open via allocated power switches.
The new Citroën C1 is available with a choice of two latest-generation petrol engines. With the e-VTi 68 Airdream engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox and featuring Stop&Start technology with a special aerodynamics pack, the C1 is on par with the best in class for fuel consumption. The VTi 68 engine is available with the clutchless ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox). This 5-speed gearbox features a creep function and optimized pedal mapping, adjusting power effectively for smoother start-ups and enhanced driveability. A more powerful derivation of the C1’s engine comes in the form of the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder from the PureTech breed; this engine boosts output to 82 bhp and 118 Nm of torque, whilst keeping fuel consumption low at 65mpg and emissions at just 99g/km.
Compared with the previous-generation, the 2014 Citroën C1 features a rear axle that is 4 kg lighter, new suspension springs, new shock absorbers and a new large-diameter anti-roll bar. These changes improve both suspension comfort and road handling. The C1 also houses a new electric power steering. Hill-start assist is standard in the C1 to uphold the car’s safety perspectives.
