Continental Tyres have had a long and illustrious history in Malaysia, which dates back half a century at least. The German Tyre manufacturer has two major plants in the country, namely the Petaling Jaya and Alor Setar factories. Most recently, the Continental Alor Setar plant celebrated its 40th Anniversary. The plant in Alor Setar with the state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities was established since 1979, produces passenger light truck and motorcycle tyres and ships them to Asia Pacific markets. It is situated in the Norhern State of Kedah.
To mark the four decades in operation, Continental Tyres Malaysia threw a bash to commemorate the occasion and the 78 millionth tyre produced at the factory. “With the 40 years’ experience, our people here at Continental has built a tradition of excellence and able to win trust from our customers by offering high quality products and services”, Carlos Bernabe, General Manager of the factory, commented.
The Continental Alor Setar plant has a new mixing facility for more efficient production of tyres. This ultimately leads to growth contribution and high product quality performance. Over the decades, the plant has received plenty of quality and product delivery accolades from major car brands such as Ford, Honda and Proton. There is also a training center where ample employee trainings and assessments are conducted during their employment period. This is to ensure that Continental is one of the best employers in the country.
From just a hundred employees to over a thousand personnel in a span of 40 years, this growing headcount is quite a remarkable achievement for a global tyre company. Today, not only the workforce had increased but there are more women working in various position including the shopfloor. Continental recognizes that diversity is the key substance for pioneering developments and future success.
Globally, Continental is one of the top tyre brands with a total sales of 44.4 billion Euros in 2018. As many as 240,000 personnel works for the company in 60 countries. Continental Tyres have 24 production facilities worldwide. The tyre division employs 56,000 people throughout the world and has a sales turnover of 11.4 biliion Euros.
