|Continental Tyres today announced its newest passenger car and SUV tyres, Viking. Viking tyres have been introduced to the country approximately a couple of months ago and are available at selected Continental ‘Best Drive’ dealerships in the Valley.|
Stemmed from its Scandinavian roots in Norway, the Viking brand first sprung onto the scene in 1931. By 1970, the brand had acquired 50 percent market share in its home land and became an industry leader. With its renowned winter tyres, the Viking brand spread to Deutschland, the Netherlands, Australia. Italy, Switzerland and the U.S.A. a decade later. Viking tyres, especially its winter range, are deemed cost effective and durable at its designated European countries and America. This invariably led to Continental’s acquisition of 49 percent of its share in the early 90s and soon 100 percent share by ’92.
Viking’s entry into China in 2012 and subsequently South East Asia
In 2012, the Viking brand entered the Chinese market with a line-up of compatible tyres; both winter and summer ranges. With Continental’s strong backing, Viking tyres quickly became widely accepted in China and soon expanded its market reach down south to South East Asian countries, including Malaysia.
Since its introduction in the country in early August, Continental Tyre (Viking Tyres Malaysia) has persistently performed on-ground activities and digital campaigns to prepare for Viking’s grand entrance to the domestic automotive scene. First, they launched a multi-digital marketing platform which incorporated a Smartphone game starring its mascot, Olav, social media sites and even setup a Viking Tyres You Tube channel. Next, the company engaged in a few on-ground activities at populated city spots to communicate the Viking brand to the citizens.
Viking tyre range in the country is essentially offered in two options; the CityTech CT5 and the ProTech PT5. The brand sits below the Continental and Dunlop tyre ranges.
Continental Tyre M’sia CEO Benoit Henry commented, “With increasing demands from motorists for better performance, safety and reliability; we believe that Viking tyres are well equipped to answer these needs. Combining both Norwegian flair and German Technology, we are proud to introduce our Viking tyres domestically.”
Viking CityTech 5
The Viking CT5 is developed with an Asymmetric Pattern design to ensure utmost safety in dry and wet conditions. With optimized vold volume distributions and a ‘KJEDE’ body structure, the CT5 provides equal weight distribution to ensure even wear. And thanks to its different pitch sequence inside and out, plus even wear capability, the CT5 assures a quiet ride, exceptional low noise levels, and even helps improve mileage.
The Viking CT5 is offered in five Series: 50 Series, 55 Series, 60 Series, 65 Series and 70 Series; in diverse tyre sizes ranging from 155/70R12 73S to 165/50R15 72H.
Viking ProTech 5
Its direct sibling the Viking ProTech 5 (PT5) is also based on an Asymmetrical Pattern design for extra dependability whether dry or wet. Its compound that’s derived from the “Navigasjon” technology roughly translates to a safe and durable ride.
The PT5’s rounded groove edges on the pattern helps to reduce noise level while maintaining consistency. At the same time, the tyre’s ‘Navigasjon’ ply technology absorbs impact and vibrations on uneven roads. There are seven ranges for the Viking PT5: 70 Series, 65 Series, 60 Series, 55 Series, 50 Series, 45 Series and 40 Series. The PT5’s sizes run from 215/70R15 98H to 245/40R18 93 W.
