Created without limits to inspire unlimited desire, the Ducati 1199 Superleggera produces more than 200hp yet weighs in at just 155kg, making it the lightest superbike ever created. The ideal combination of precious materials such as titanium, magnesium and carbon fiber set the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production motorcycle in history.
1199 Superleggera is the lightest Ducati yet
With the already impressive Panigale ‘R’ as a baseline, the Superleggera integrates a magnesium monocoque frame with forged Marchesini magnesium wheels and features a carbon fiber rear sub-frame and bodywork, lithium-ion battery and full titanium exhaust system with stainless steel headers. Its design is further enhanced by a lightweight Öhlins FL916 front suspension with fully-machined fork bottoms and an Öhlins TTX36 rear suspension with titanium spring.
The Superleggera’s Brembo M50 Monobloc brakes inherit a racing-style MCS 19-21 front master cylinder and remote adjuster and its final drive gets upgraded with a lightweight Ergal rear sprocket, and World Superbike-spec 520 drive chain.
Performance is suped-up by the addition of titanium exhaust valves to the Superquadro engine, which sports titanium con-rods and inlet valves, and special two-ring pistons – a first for a Ducati street engine. The pistons, usually found on racing Superbikes, use short skirts and only two rings (compression and oil) which enable them to dramatically reduce mass and friction. A modified combustion chamber with new piston crown increases compression ratio and is complimented by an ultra-lightened crankshaft, precision balanced using dense tungsten inserts. The variant’s electronics also benefit from an upgrade, including the Ducati Wheelie control, Ducati Traction Control and Engine Brake Control.
The track-only Race Kit consists of a titanium Akrapovič race exhaust system, including silencers and 2-in-1 collector, high racing windscreen, dedicated dust cover, front and rear paddock stands, machined mirror fill-caps and removal kits for the registration holder and sidestand. When used, it pumps up power by 5hp and reduces weight by 2.5kg for a decent power to weight ratio.
Only 500 units are available globally, each with its own individual number inscribed on the top clamp. Other than that, you’d have to be picked, should you have the desire to purchase a Ducati Superleggera via a short-listing process by Ducati. And, the price tag on the 1199 SUperleggera is RM 488,888 nett.
The Ducati 1199 Superleggera is on display at the Ducati store from today until 23 January, so don’t miss for the world.
