The event was part of the celebrations for Ducati’s 90th Anniversary which started at the symbolic Sala Rossa of the City Hall of Bologna, Italy. The activities thereafter included; the opening of the newly renovated Ducati Museum, a ‘Globetrotter 90’ motorcycle world tour, a special-edition of the World Ducati Week (WDW), and the unveiling of the Ducati 90 line of accessories and apparels.
Here’s a brief on the newest Ducati machines:
Ducati Superbike 959 PANIGALE
This year, Ducati’s 959 Panigale became a larger capacity, even more versatile “Supermid” model. The Ducati Superbike 959 Panigale shares the same innovative stylistic features that characterise its ‘bigger brother’, the 1299 Panigale, but with an engine designed for a more enjoyable everyday riding experience and more thrills on the race track.
The new 955 cm3 twin-cylinder power unit, the first Superquadro to have obtained Euro 4 type-approval, comes with a new stroke length and other innovations that have given rise to an even more impressive torque curve and increased maximum power, now 157 hp at 10.500 rpm. The increased torque and maximum power values do not imply shorter service intervals, therefore, valve clearance inspections are still only required every 24,000 km.
The super-smooth engine continues to be a fully stressed member of the innovative monocoque frame, achieving both an outstanding power-to-weight ratio and ride-enhancing response and agility with a dry weight of only 176 kg – while still ensuring full compliance with the structural limitations required by Euro 4 standards. The unmistakable 1299 Panigale-derived silhouette of this bike, even with a redesigned nose fairing, headlight and tailpiece, underlines the family DNA: the Ducati Quick Shift (DQS), Riding Mode technology including Ride-by-Wire, triple-stage Bosch ABS, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Engine Brake Control (EBC) featured by the Panigale are in line with Ducati’s very own standards of technological excellence.
Every last detail of the 959 Panigale pays tribute to Ducati’s legendary racing heritage. The wider nose fairing and screen improve aerodynamic performance and add to the aggressive look of the new front end, also enhanced by larger-section front air intakes. The split tailpiece design is the final touch to a real work of art: the 959 Panigale fairing, now including redesigned lateral air intakes and new rear view mirrors. The new bike is also equipped with aluminium billet-machined footrests for enhanced boot grip while riding.
The 959 Panigale is available in traditional Ducati red with black wheels or a stunning Arctic White Silk with contrasting red wheels. The listed retail price for the Ducati Superbike 959 Panigale is RM99,999.
Ducati Hypermotard 939
The Hypermotard 939, also available in the Hypermotard 939 SP and Hyperstrada 939 versions, renews and confirms the success of the Ducati range that has thrilled the motorcycling world for almost ten years. The three versions available in the 2016 range of the Hypermotard 939 family meet the requirements of even the most demanding riders. The Hypermotard 939 is the perfect combination of sports character and versatility. Lightweight and user-friendly for daily use. With its top-class components and performance, the Hypermotard 939 SP offers an adrenalin-packed sports riding experience – especially on race tracks. The Hyperstrada 939 Tourer, with its impressive standard equipment, is highly practical for the daily commute and versatile and fun for medium-distance trips. The listed retail price for the Ducati Hypermotard 939 is RM70,999.
Ducati Monster 1200 R
Equipped with a 1200 cc Testastretta 11° DS “R” version twin-cylinder engine, the Monster 1200 R takes the Ducati naked sports bike concept to the extreme. Compared to the Monster 1200 S engine, the twincylinder “R” version delivers 10% more power and 5.5% more torque. Its 160 hp output turns the Monster 1200 R into a naked supersport bike able to show its true colours on a race track hile making the rider feel perfectly comfortable during daily commutes – thanks to a full-bodied, smooth delivery at low and medium rpm.
The Monster 1200 R is equipped with new suspensions and Öhlins steering damper, and separate rider and passenger footpegs to enhance its racing-inspired riding experience. The new naked sports model by Ducati is even lighter than the S version thanks to the new tailpiece, forged wheels, and carbon fiber components, bringing the total dry weight down to 180 kg.
The nose fairing, radiator trim with engraved “R” logo, and the two available color schemes Ducati Red and Thrilling Black. The Monster 1200 R is also equipped with the Ducati Safety Pack including the ABS and Ducati Traction Control systems to enhance vehicle performance, optimise control and improve overall riding safety. This package is managed by three different Riding Modes (Sport, Touring and Urban): three different Monster R ‘souls’ delivered by different settings of the power mode, the ABS and Traction Control systems.
The listed retail price for the Ducati Monster 1200 R is RM139,999.
Alongside the above three models, Ducati Malaysia also brought forth the Multistrada 1200 Enduro and XDiavel. The Multistrada comes in three different colors (Ducati Red, Phantom Grey and Star White Silk) and can be personalised with items from the comprehensive Ducati Performance accessory catalogue by Touratech which includes the four Enduro, Touring, Sport and Urban packages. It has a listed price of RM129,999.
FInally, the XDiavel cruiser is the first Ducati to use belt-type final transmission. Belt drive offers the advantages of more silent running, cleanliness, reduced maintenance and the fluid throttle response one wants from a Cruiser. Design and technology merge again on the Full LED light assemblies, which play a key role in the styling of the XDiavel.
Available also as an S version, the XDiavel features a black-only color scheme (on the S version the matt black becomes gloss). The bike also has the innovative DRL (Daytime Running Light) at the front, forks with DLC coating, Brembo M50 front brake callipers, a special seat and parts with machine-finished highlights. These include eye-catching alloy wheels and aluminium engine belt covers, given even greater allure thanks to the gloss black paintwork. The Ducait XDiavel has a retail price of RM135,999.
