Ford improves on its popular EcoSport variant

The all-new EcoSport is Ford’s compact SUV known for its agility, affordability and fuel efficiency. It also adopts a ‘flexibility’ appeal and offers enough space for occupants on the inside. EcoSport is the first Ford global variant to be developed entirely in South America. First introduced in 2003 the EcoSport created the segment in Brazil and has since sold more than 770,000 in the region. In Malaysia, the Ford EcoSport made its domestic debut at the 2013 KLIMS (Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show).

The stylish and rugged Ford EcoSport is the first SUV in the world to be offered in a 1.0-liter engined version and is among the first Ford vehicles in Europe available with Ford SYNC with AppLink, enabling drivers to voice-control smartphone apps.

The EcoSport represents a definitive compact SUV by Ford

At the front, the EcoSport has a short bonnet, raked front pillars and a distinctive five-piece chrome front grille with angular headlights and LED light strips. The side and rear profiles do not differ much from the previous generation. Additionally, the full-sized spare wheel mounted on the tailgate ensures the EcoSport’s load capacity rivals that of many medium-sized family cars with up to 375 liters available when the rear seats are in place, depending on the rake of the seats.

Inside. the driver gets a seat with height adjustable and an adjustable steering for both reach and rake. There are 20 smart stowage solutions, including room in the door pockets to store a large drinks bottle, a slide-out drawer under the front passenger seat, and a cooled glove box that can store up to six drink cans.

The EcoSport is powered by the acclaimed turbocharged 1.0-liter EcoBoost petrol engine that is said to rival a traditional 1.6-liter engine. The compact SUV is also available with a 1.5l petrol engine. Paired to either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, the EcoSport enables an output of 125PS (1.0l Ecoboost) or 112/90 PS (1.5l). Fuel consumption and emissions ratings 4.4l per 100 km (1.0l) or 3.8l per 100km (1.5l), and between 120 – 149g/km of CO2.

Rated 4-star Euro NCAP, will the Ford EcoSport proves its worth for a 5-star rating?

The new Ford EcoSport has been afforded a four-star safety rating from independent vehicle safety organization Euro NCAP, and is equipped with driver, passenger, curtain and side airbags, as well as a driver’s knee airbag. Although not quite a 5-star rated car, the EcoSport sports these important safety features: Hill Start Assist, Cruise Control, automatic wipers and headlights, and rear-parking sensors. On the Active and Passive safety lists, the SUV takes on Super-high-strength boron steel door frames; and further safety systems such as Traction Control, Electronic Stability Program, Anti-Lock Brakes, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution and Emergency Brake Assist. Last but not least, the EcoSport is also equipped with Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Passenger Airbag Deactivation Indicator.
