Honda Malaysia reduces battery prices & extends warranty period for its Hybrid variants

2013 Honda Hybrid line-up_2 Good news to all Honda Hybrid owners, Honda Malaysia has announced a price reduction on replacement of hybrid cars’ batteries effective 1 June. Apart from the price reduction of batteries, Honda Malaysia is also offering an extended up to 8-year warranty period for its hybrid variants: Honda Civic Hybrid, CR-Z, CR-Z MMC, Jazz Hybrid and Insight.

At a significant 43 –  52 percent dip for batteries, Honda Malaysia is ensuring that their customers remain confident in Honda hybrid cars.

The Honda Insight, CR-Z pre-facelift and Jazz Hybrid are instilled a Nickel metal battery, which now see a battery price drop of between 43 – 47 percent. The Honda Insight’s battery is cast down RM 7,580 to 3,980, while the CR-Z and Jazz Hybrid are reduced RM 7,580 to 3,980 and RM 6,934 to 3,980 respectively. Honda’s newer hybrid variant the CR-Z has a price tag of RM5,480 for the lithium ion, which is unchanged, while the Civic Hybrid’s lithium-ion battery price has shrunk from RM 11,480 to RM5,480.

Yoichiro Ueno, Managing Director and CEO of Honda Malaysia, explained, “Honda Malaysia is able to reduce the price of the batteries and transfer the benefit to our customers due to three main reasons. Firstly, we reviewed the total cost of logistic as well as the administrative expenses and have reduced it by enhancing the efficiency of our business. Secondly, the costs of hybrid batteries are gradually decreasing due to the increase of global hybrid sales and production of hybrid vehicles including its batteries. Furthermore, the recent depreciation of Yen against the Ringgit has reduced the import cost of hybrid batteries that are fully imported from Japan.”

“We have learnt that the two main concerns of the customers in accepting the hybrid vehicle are the hybrid battery’s life-span and its replacement cost. Thus, we have taken a huge step to reduce the price of the hybrid batteries and to extend the warranty period,” he added.

The extended warranty of 8 years which was effective at the beginning of June shows that Honda M’sia has its customers in mind through the various feedbacks and concerns. The extended warranty would apply for Honda Hybrids purchased between January 2011 up till May 2013. “We have been constantly studying the market and taking feedbacks from our valued customers into consideration,” Ueno commented.

The Honda Insight, CR-Z, Jazz Hybrid, CR-Z MMC and Civic Hybrid variants are currently offered with 5-year or 140,000 km warranty & unlimited mileage. Now, all Hybrid variants get 8 years and unlimited mileage.

With the insertion of battery price reduction and the 8-year warranty, Honda Malaysia is at the forefront in offering the longest hybrid battery warranty in the domestic automotive industry.

Honda has continued to lead in the hybrid segment with more than 50% in the hybrid market share and close to 16,800 units of Honda Hybrid vehicles sold as of 31 May. Reinforcing Honda’s position as the market leader in the hybrid segment, Honda M’sia became the first car manufacturer to assemble CKD hybrid models in November 2012. Upon completion of its No. 2 line, Honda M’sia’s Malacca factory will be able to increase its production capacity up to 100,000 units annually, which would support the company’s growth particularly in its hybrid models.
