The domestic automotive scene is currently all abuzz about the recently launched Hyundai IONIQ. Since its introduction in Malaysia late last month, the Hyundai IONIQ has been making waves in the country according to distributors Hyundai Sime Darby Motors.

The Hyundai IONIQ is offered in seven color choices for the domestic market; Phantom Black, Polar White, Platinum Silver, Aurora Silver, Iron Grey, Marina Blue and Phoenix Orange (HEV Plus). Price for the IONIQ HEV is RM99,888 and the IONIQ HEV Plus goes from RM110,388, all minus insurance and additional charges.

On 1 December, the Hyundai IONIQ took up 5-star rating in Euro NCAP’s safety tests. The IONIQ achieved top marks in four categories of the Euro NCAP tests: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist. Thanks to a long list of standard active safety features, the IONIQ is one of the safest ride in the global markets. The active safety list on all versions includes Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Smart Cruise Control.

Fast forward to the present, the Hyundai IONIQ has gernered the 2016 Good Design Awards, in recognition of successful application of its design philosophy. The company received the design award for the IONIQ, two consecutive years in 2015 and this year, which is the first in the world to offer three distinct electrified powertrains on a single, dedicated vehicle platform, the IONIQ Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Electric.

The IONIQ is predicted to attract an entirely new group of eco-oriented buyers in the U.S. and related markets as the world’s first dedicated vehicle platform with three electrified eco-friendly powertrain choices. IONIQ meets the needs of a large and growing group of buyers needing a highly efficient, low-emissions vehicle without compromise to their demand on aerodynamic design as well as vehicle performance.

The annual Good Design Awards program has been developed by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design in recognition of the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial, product, and graphic designs from around the world. The oldest and the most prestigious architecture and design awards program organized worldwide, the Good Design award brought together an international jury of design professionals, architects, experts and cultural leaders to select their favorite designs and graphics.

Among the thousands of world-leading industrial and graphic design firms and manufacturers being evaluated, Hyundai stood out for its product, highlighting the competitiveness of the brand’s design strategy and output. On 27 January 2017, the official awards ceremony is held in New York during the Museum’s Good Design night.
