The domestic Jaguar XE takes up a long wheelbase and low seating position thanks to well-conceived proportions and a coupe-like profile. The profile consists of short front overhang and long rear overhang, and the car’s front fascia has the cab-rearward stance and signature J-Blade running lights.
From the rear, the lights, a horizontal line intersecting a roundel, is a powerful styling feature inherited from the iconic E-Type. Co-efficient drag rating is just 0.26, lowest ever for a Jaguar production car. For the range topping XE S, there is large front air intakes, chrome side vents, discreet rear spoiler and optional 20-inch wheels. There’s also the base version XE Prestige and the R-Sport as the mid-range XE.
Inside, the Jaguar XE’s luxurious cabin offers high levels of comfort and spaciousness. Exquisite materials and finishes combined with Jaguar craftsmanship make this a class-beating interior that is unlike anything else in the segment. The rear seats can comfortably accommodate three adults while a spacious 455-liter boot means plenty of luggage space, especially as the rear seats come with flexible 40:20:40 folding capabilities. In addition, Jaguar’s new InControl Touch infotainment system takes center stage inside the XE. And that’s not all; the XE comes with two intense audio systems: the standard Jaguar Sound System and the optional 380W Meridian Sound System 12 channels and 11 speakers with subwoofer.
Powertrain option valid for the XE starts with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, paired to 8-speed automatic transmission to allow 200 PS. At the same, the higher XEs, R-Sport and S, go with 240PS version on a similar 2.0-liter engine, and the S version is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 supercharged petrol engine for an unprecedented 340PS/450Nm, as well as 0 – 100 km/h dash in just 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (155mph). Both R-Sport and S are also matched to an 8-xpeed gearbox.
The Jaguar XE’s light aluminium-intensive monocoque, together with double wishbone front suspension and an Integral Link rear axle, is fundamental to the XE’s innovative benchmark vehicle dynamics. Besides driving dynamics, the XE comes loaded with some of the most driver assistance systems available, including the All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) and JaguarDrive Control, which enables Normal, Eco, Dynamic or Winter drive modes.
Another impressive function on the new Jaguar XE is Torque Vectoring by braking , ala F-TYPE Coupé. This high-tech innovation mitigates the onset of understeer by lightly braking individual inner wheels as required to help keep the car on the optimum line through corners. Another worthy highlight of the XE is the next-generation Electric Power-Assisted Steering, specially developed for this premium compact sedan.
The new Jaguar XE is offered in three options, the XE Prestige, R-Sport and the top-of-the-line S. Price starts from RM340,000 for the Jaguar XE Prestige, RM365,000 for the R-Sport and RM580,000 for the Jaguar XE S. For a premium ownership experience, every XE comes with a five-year or 150,000km warranty and three-year roadside assist. Owners of the 2.0-liter Prestige and R-Sport also enjoy a five-year or 80,000km free scheduled maintenance while the 3.0-liter S variant has a five-year or 65,000km package.
