These days, everybody is trying to put their cars against the rigorous trials at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Jaguar Land Rover is the latest manufacturer to demonstrate that, with the XE SV Project 8. Under their Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations, the newer Jaguar XE SV 8 was put to the trials to beat the four-door production car record at the ‘Nur’.

After a couple of runs on the 20.6-kilometer track, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 showed its poise, performance  to post a 7: 18.361. This was the fastest lap time for a four-door production car. The latest Jaguar Sedan beat the previous mark set by the Project 8 by 2.9 seconds, in November 2017. It was 7 seconds faster than any other four-door production car, for that matter. Project 8 is also the first vehicle to set an official whole lap record in the Nürburgring’s mid-range production car class, lapping the circuit length in 7:23.164s.

Returning to the famous German circuit in a production-specification two-seat Track Pack version of Project 8 was development driver Vincent Radermecker. The car’s height-adjustable twin-spring coil-over suspension was set in ‘track’ ride height, with adjustable front splitter and carbon0fiber rear aerodynamic wing positioned for maximum downforce and stability.

Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) revealed that the new Project 8 performance and steering precision were able to be maximized thanks to the new off-the-shelf ultra-high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres. Tested and chosen by SV engineers for their capability on the track, the road-legal tyres use rubber compounds directly transferred from Michelin’s competition tyres.

The Jaguar XV SE Project 8 is powered by the most highly tuned 600PS version of Jaguar’s 5.0-liter Supercharged V8, the all-wheel-drive Project 8 is capable of 0-100km/h in 3.7s  and a top speed of 320km/h. Project 8 also features a fully-enclosed flat underbody for enhanced aerodynamics, which is key to its performance.

Next for this car is to go into production in a limited edition variant. The XV SE Project 8 comprises three specifications: Lightweight two-seat Track Pack, Four-seat configuration and Touring specification with discreet fixed rear spoiler.

Jaguar unveils that  this ultimate Q-car is limited to only 15 examples worldwide. The price starts from 149,995 pounds.
