With every car company on the planet trying to be ‘futuristic’, Korean make Kia isn’t going to be left out as they introduced the Futuron Concept SUV Coupe. This concept is supposedly an EV. The Futuron concept stands for a portmanteau of ‘future’ and ‘on’, hinting at the switched-on, electric nature of future SUV designs from Kia. This concept is bound to make its debut at the China Import Expo in Shanghai, from now until 10 November.

Design cues of the Kia Futuron concept is represented by, well, an SUV and a Coupe. The front-end Is low with the SUV flair, while the silhouette and fastback rear gave it its aerodynamically savvy profile. This is a glimpse of how future Kias would look like, especially for its SUVs.

At unveiling, the concept measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,550 mm tall and with a 3,000 mm-long wheelbase. That low ground clearance is something to stress about, too. Again, like everybody else, they’re trying to make an SUV sports car-like. Highlights include the familiar ‘Tiger nose’ grille and Star Cloud’ headlights with Matrix LEDs and DRLs, Star Cloud light signature is also fitted to the third brake light.

Initially, the Kia Futuron concept takes on four electric motors with a high-capacity battery mounted low. Meantime, a cutting-edge e-AWD system delivers lightning-fast responses to driver inputs. On the inside, you can bet that Kia won’t stop pulling out all the stops with a ‘futuristic’ cabin to match the exterior. Some of the highlights include a diamond-shaped panoramic glasshouse roof, seats created from flexible mateirlals, a retractable steering, a seamless interior to address autonomous driving, ambient lighting and a graphical user interface cockpit (GUI). The GUI is operated by artificial intelligence technologies, displaying useful information about the car various autonomous driving, powertrain and navigation.
