|Previously previewed at the Asean Auto exhibition, the Kia Rio Sedan now has an official price tag, as announced by Naza Kia Malaysia.|
The Kia Rio Sedan represents another version of the recently refreshed Rio hatchback, launched in May, and carries the recognizable Kia identity from inside and out. Presented in a stylish sub-compact with its familiar urban characteristics, the Rio Sedan can possibly appease B-segment buyers slightly more than the hatchback version, due to a number of varying factors.
At a glance, the front takes up the recognizable ‘Tiger Nose’ radiator grille with a geometrical lattice pattern. The fascia is paired to bulb DRLs (daytime running lights) and halogen headlights. Further differentiating the Rio Sedan and hatchback version is the more pronounced fog lights, wrapped in chrome. To create a sleek profile, the roofline of the Rio sedan has a low sloping towards the rear, which gives the sub-compact a tight rear-end. From the rear, the Rio Sedan shares the hatchback version’s features; almost to the point. Wheel and tyre comprise of 15-inch denominations, which assure ride comfort and stability at all times.
Interior of the Rio Sedan is all about simplicity as Kia intends to create a neatly-packed cabin for five passengers. The interior showcases a tilt and telescopic steering wheel with audio remote control and an Audio Head unit with Bluetooth, Radio, MP3 and USB connectivity. Other features include a trip computer for overall ambience enhancement, an immobilizer and a bright, clear instrument cluster.
Unless otherwise stated, the Rio sedan should inherit the hatchback’s 1.4 MPI DOHC Dual=CVVT powerplant that’s paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission; which translates to an output of 109 PS and 137 Nm of torque.
Some of the important safety features loaded into the Rio Sedan are the ABS, ESC, VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), hHill-Start Assist control (HAC), an emergency stop signal and more. On the passive side, the Rio Sedan comes with six air bags, ISOFIX, as well as standard keyless entry, power windows and door locks.
Globally, the Kia Rio has commanded approximately 2 million in sales, however demands in this country has been somewhat less cordial since its introduction almost 2 years ago.
We expected the Kia Rio Sedan to be tagged at below RM 85,000 during its preview and today. Naza Kia Malaysia confirmed it at RM 72,888. The colors valid for the Rio Sedan include Bright Silver, Signal Red, Deep Blue and Clear White.
