BMW Malaysia today introduces the New 1 Series, the M135i xDrive. This is the third-generation 1 Series, which had already seen its global debut not too long ago.
The 1 Series is the smallest model in BMW’s diverse portfolio and resembles the 3 Series closely. As a new generation, BMW has updated the 1 Series with plenty of new elements on the exterior, interior and on the tech side.
Let’s discover the exterior: the M135i xDrive has the Cerium grey mesh front grille, the two kidney grilles are merged as one for the first time. The front fascia has air inlets to exude a new design signature, pairing the adaptive headlights with high-beam assist.
More inlets are available at the side of the car to go along with the mirror caps, and there are 19-inch wheels in V-spoke Style 557 M style. From the rear, the tailgate consists of two portions and the M spoiler, as well as the exhaust pipes in Cerium Grey. Further accentuating the rear is the L-shaped design, bringing up the width of the M135i.
Interior-wise, the 1 Series isn’t as compact as it used to be, thanks to a redesigned cabin that features a more spacious interior, despite a shorter wheelbase.. The M135i xDrive has grown in width (+34mm) and height (+13mm) compared to its predecessor. Boot space is up by 20 liters to 380 liters. Upholstery is decked in illuminated Boston’ interior trim finishers and Leather Dakota upholstery in black or red with perforations. The driver’s seat has memory function with headliner Anthracite. Other amenities include wireless charging, 16-Speaker Harman Kardon surround sound, and the BMW Live Cockpit with 10.25-inch instrument display and 10.25-inch touchscreen.
A standard 2.0-liter turbo engine ensures an output of 225kW/306hp and a peak torque of 450Nm. This gives the M135i a 0 – 100 km/h sprint in about 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 250km/h. The engine is paired to an 8-speed transmission with Torsen limited-slip (LSD).
New Suspension setup doubles driving fun
M Sport suspension with M Sport brakes make up for driving fun. The new 1 Series also comes with Active Sound, a first in the model, to give a subtle growl when pushing hard on the accelerator. Another first is the ARB technology (actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation), With LSD Launch Control, traction is optimized by distributing power to individual wheels.
The New 1 Series offers plenty of driver assistance including the BMW Personal CoPilo suite, Parking Assistant and Reversing Assistant.
The New M135i xDrive is offered in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Misano Blue, Mineral Grey or Melbourne Red hue. Upholstery options include black Leather ‘Dakota’ with black perforations or Magma Red Leather ‘Dakota’ with grey highlight and black perforations. The car goes for RM 355,646, minus insurance and additional charges.
On top of the M135i, BMW Malaysia today also introduced the BMW X1 sDrive18i, an addition to its CKD vehicles line-up. The New BMW X1 sDrive18i is expected to slot in as the most budget friendly BMW ever to join the line-up.
Powering the BMW X1 sDrive18i is the BMW TwinPower Turbo 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine that pumps out 140hp and a peak torque of 220Nm. This translated to a top speed of 201 km/h and a century sprint of 9.6 seconds. Mated with a 7-Speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch, expect the engine to return an impressive fuel consumption of 6.3 l/100km.
On the outside, BMW has given the entry level BMW X1 LED headlights, front LED fog lights, satin-finish aluminium roof rails and exterior trim, and new 17-inch light alloy wheels to complete the SAV athletic look.
Moving to the interior, the BMW X1 sDrive18i features interior trim finishers in black high-gloss and highlight trim finishers in Pearl Chrome, along with Leather Dakota upholstery to make the interior feels sophisticated. There are also the sport leather steering wheel, electrically-adjustable front seats, two-zone automatic air conditioning and the BMW grey headliner to make the interior look modern.
