Leaf-ing Into The Future

In recent times, European countries have announce that they are banning the fossil fueled vehicle sales, thus encouraging the sales of electric vehicle. As Nissan being one of the early adopters of electric vehicles, they’ve started selling the 1st generation Nissan Leaf in Malaysia a couple of years back. In order to continue to stay at the forefront of Electric Vehicle (EV) technology, Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) launch the 2nd generation Nissan Leaf in Malaysia.

Powering the Nissan Leaf is a new e-powertrain that produces 150PS (110kW) and 320Nm from the electric motor. This brings the car from standstill to 100kph in 7.9 seconds while the car tops out at 155kph which is electronically limited.

Nissan fitted the 40kWh lithium-ion battery in the lower part of the chassis, which achieve low center of gravity. A full-charge for the battery will be able to travel a distance of 311km base on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Nissan puts the Leaf battery through some rigorous quality and durability tests, such as flood test and thunderbolt test to ensure the battery will be able to handle our normal usage.

To juiced up the Nissan Leaf, you are given a standard 6.6kW Wall Box Charger that will fully charge the Nissan Leaf in 7 hours. If you need to charge the car when you’re out and about, you can use the 50kW quick charger that you can find in shopping malls that will charge the car up to full in approximately an hour.

When the accelerator is fully released, regenerative and friction brakes are automatically applied, bringing the car to a complete stop.
