|The Lexus NX mid-sized Crossover SUV is stipulated to arrive domestically the following year. For now, let’s get a little acquainted with Lexus’ first premium mid-size Crossover: a crossover that portrays an SUV with an edgy, emotional design.|
The new Crossover, in a nutshell, takes up the motifs of the LF-NX Concept. At the front and rear, the flares are fused to the diamond-shaped body that starts at the spindle grille. It is sculpted to look nimble with incredible power concentrated inside. The bold flared wheel arches housing 17 or 18-inch wheels provide a crouching, muscular stance. Innovative LED headlamps and DRL (daytime running lights) firmly express Lexus’ design language. From the side, the roofline peak is set towards the back of the vehicle to provide ample head-room for rear seat occupants and create a tight silhouette.
Sculpted mirrors and world’s first door handle mechanism for the Lexus NX Crossover
A sculpted outer mirror and a world-first door handle mechanism (with a hidden key barrel and integrated lighting) add to the premium appearance. At the rear, Lexus’ signature L-shaped combi. lights with LEDs and the streamlined bodywork are positioned to match the front’s spindle grille.
Then there’s the F-Sport version for the NX Crossover, offering a more pronounced spindle grille, front lower bumper, aluminium wheel, black outer mirror, unique interior colour, ornament panel and sport seat. And yes, it has performance dampers for an even more dependable handling.
Interior-wise, the NX has an array of innovative on-board technologies, including a Wireless charging tray, the Lexus Remote Touch Interface with a Touch Pad, Panoramic View Monitor, a comprehensive Multi-information Display (including a Lexus-first G sensor and boost meter), 6.2-inch HUD (Head-Up Display), Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
At the center, the metallic silver frame moulded into the instrument panel calls for a bold statement. Additionally, strongly wrapped knee pads on both sides of the center frame firmly support the driver and passenger. Advanced HMI (Human Machine Interface) technology provides intuitive interaction and creates an advanced impression, while Lexus’ display and operation zone concept is continued in the NX.
Like the RX before it, the interior cabin offers ample overall head room and wide front to rear couple
distance. It has also the best luggage load length in its segment. A quilted pattern in the seats and varied pad thickness are used to express the crossover intention of the vehicle.
Three engines are made available for the NX Crossover; the 2.5-liter (300h), 2.0-liter turbo (200t) and 2.0-liter (200). The 300h hybrid with Front- and All-wheel Drive system allows an output of 197 PS and has fuel and emissions readings of 5.2l and 120g. The 200t offers 238 PS @4,800-5,600rpm and 350Nm@1,650-4,000rpm. Lastly, the NA 2.0l, though substantially lesser in terms of output and torque, is paired to smooth shifting S-CVT/Multi-drive sequential-shift transmission; possibly valid for the other versions.
The NX has been designed for agile driving, handling stability, turning posture and superior ride comfort, including yaw-rate response to steering input and stability on uneven road surfaces. Features include an underbody reinforcement, a comprehensive package of reinforcements, and the use of Lexus body adhesive, laser-screw welding and high-rigidity glass adhesive.
Selected NXs have newly developed dampers and Lexus’ new-generation linear-solenoid type Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS). Linked to the Drive Mode Select, it is able to change the level of damping force, enhance ride comfort ensuring peace of mind due to reduced roll. Safety features are aplenty for the NX, they include a Panoramic View Monitor, All-speed Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and more.
