|Following its regional launch at the recent Bangkok Motor Show, Motor Image Malaysia today introduced the locally-assembled Subaru Forester for the domestic market at the One Utama Shopping mall in Petaling Jaya.|
The new Subaru Forester receives a chic grille design and tail light cluster while shod with newly designed alloy wheels on the outside, while receiving much improved interior trim and creature comforts in the form of a premium multimedia head unit and an LCD Cluster Display in keeping up with the times.
Subaru Forester fans will be in for a treat as the new models will come with Steering Responsive Headlights in the 2.0i-P and 2.0XT, which responds by turning left or right with steering input. To really stand out, both the 2.0i-P and 2.0XT variants come with LED projector headlights.
Being a thoroughbred SUV, you can expect class-leading all-terrain handling anywhere, anytime. Another exciting new feature in the new Forester is X-Mode, which optimizes control of engine parameters and fully commands the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (S-AWD) system while maintaining proper brake function to allow users to drive practically almost over any type of terrain known to man. When X-Mode is activated, the ECU seamlessly orchestrates the throttle response, transmission behavior and S-AWD to navigate safely over difficult terrain. Hill Descent Control is also activated in X-Mode, which means that you can pretty much descend steep slopes like a mountain goat, regardless of the road conditions. Aside from electronic enhancements, the new Forester also gets a new enhanced suspension system for maximum comfort in spite of improved rigidity and better handling, thanks to a stiffer cross member along with enhanced coils and dampers.
The locally-assembled Subaru Forester takes up a fire-breathing 2.0-liter turbocharged motor good for 241PS @ 5,600rpm and 350Nm between 2,400-3,600rpm, paired to a Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission. On the other hand, the more subtle 150PS FB20 Boxer engine in the naturally aspirated Forester boasts a combined fuel efficiency figure of 7.9l/100km owing to the long stroke, high torque, lightweight engine block design while the forced induction sibling gets away with an equally decent 8.5l/100km in spite of its more potent heart.
Owners of the new 2.0i-P and 2.0XT will also be more assured of never getting left in the lurch, with the incorporation of a PIN code access system (Personal Identification Number) that allows you to unlock your Forester without a key. For those rare occasions where you may have lost your key, simply key in a pre-set PIN code and you’ll be on your way.
In the safety department, Subaru has left no stone unturned by empowering the car with a Ring Shaped Reinforcement Frame that is rigid enough to withstand the roughly 1.5 tons of the car’s weight in the unlikely event of a rollover, protecting the occupants within from serious injury. Occupants of all variants are further assured with the inclusion of 7 airbags (Front, Side, Curtain and Knee), making the Forester one of the safest SUVs that you can buy in the country.
The new Subaru Forester 2.0i and 2.0i-P will be assembled in Tan Chong’s Segambut facility, and is the second model in Subaru’s CKD aspirations. Aside from catering to the local market, locally assembled Foresters will also be exported to Indonesia and Thailand for better cost rationalization. Subaru Malaysia intends to assemble up to 10,000 units of the Forester to cater to the region’s demands.
The new Forester models are available for booking at all Subaru outlets. Prices start from RM144,948.00 for the base 2.0i, rising to RM154,488.00 for the 2,0i-P and RM211,729.00 for the range-topping, fully imported 2.0XT; all prices include insurance. Colors available include Crystal White Pearl, Crystal Black Silica, Ice Silver Metallic and Burnished Bronze Metallic. For a limited time, Subaru Malaysia offers an introductory price of RM 139,800 for the Forester 2.0i and RM 151,800 for the 2.0i-P.
