|The long-awaited Ford Kuga Crossover has reached Malaysian shores in today’s debut at the Sime Darby Auto Connexion official unveiling ceremony. The Ford Kuga is one of the first SUVs in the country with a hands-free power liftgate.|
Built at Ford’s Valencia plant in Spain, the Ford Kuga boasts the kinetic exterior styling that displays that ‘energy in motion’ sentiment. At the front, the unmistakable single chrome stripe is accentuated by the Blue Oval emblem on the grille, and on front’s bottom grille, there are three symmetrical stripes just above the foglights. The three-panel housing headlights are highlighted by the central projector lamps and ‘blu-ish’ LED strips.
The Ford Kuga’s side profile highlights the beefed-up shoulder line, top railing and flowing front to rear silhouette. From the rear, the Kuga’s tall tailgate features a protruding spoiler with the third brake light and the artistic structure with a sharp-end center portion. The rearlights are extended all the way to the sides of the SUV, yet they are able to preserve the SUV’s unique rear-end. Additionally, the rearlights have double LED strips for the extra clarity and brightness in the dark.
The interior of the new Ford Kuga has been optimized for spaciousness, cargo capacity and maximum utility. The Ford Kuga has ample compartments for small items, a 60:40 adaptable rear storage and an extended 1603 liter capacity luggage space to store plenty of luggages, golf bags and even three fully-assembled mountain bikes.
In addition, the Microsoft-enabled Ford SYNC system provides voice-activated telephony access, hands-free communication and several forms of infotainment. The SYNC integrated system complements the Kuga’s Sony 9-speaker system and the 4.2-inch TFT liquid crystal display with an integrated control panel. There are power outlets in the cargo area for charging your electronic devices on the go. For those who have allergies, the Ford Kuga incorporates an anti-allergen interior that won’t release airborne fibers that can irritate the senses.
The Ford Kuga takes up a 1.6-liter EcoBoost petrol engine with Ti-VCT Technology. The powerplant propels the Kuga up to 180 PS and 240 Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed SelectShift Automatic Transmission with a sequential Sport Mode. For fuel-efficiency, the Kuga has been tested to provide 7.7l/100km on a combined cycle. Further, the now available “Active Grille Shutter” assists to improvise aerodynamic efficiency and plays its part in the engine cooling department to help improve fuel efficiency.
Driving dynamics of the Ford Kuga relies on the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, which measures driving conditions in a matter of 20 times faster than the blink of an eye. In other words, it does the effective handling and traction bits faster than you could blink. The system gauges the speed difference between front and rear wheels to determine the appropriate torque distribution when cornering to eliminate torque steer, reduce body roll, and ultimately assure much improved vehicle dynamics. This, coupled with the Torque Vectoring Control, Advance Trac with Roll Stability Control (RSC), Trailer Sway Control, (TSC), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Curve Control makes the Kuga one intelligent SUV.
As a 5-star recipient of the Euro NCAP, the Ford Kuga’s body structure is doubly rigid with the incorporation of ultra-high-strength steel beams. Some of the SUV’s passive safety features include; seven airbags, pretensioners & load-limiting seatbelts, ISOFIX childseat attachments, Ford’s SOS Post-Crash Alert System and Global Double Lock.
The Ford Kuga retails for RM159,999.00 on-the-road with insurance at all Ford Sime Darby Auto Connexion showrooms; there are four body colors to choose from: Ginger Ale, Panther Black, Frozen White and Moondust Silver. The price includes five-year/200,000 km warranty, plus an Extended Service Plan of up to 3 years or 60,000km which offers selected spare parts for free and waived labor charges.
