Mazda Malaysia yesterday held a quiet ceremony to unveil the New CX-8. The Mazda CX-8 was previewed way back in February with the fully-imported specs and again at the Malaysia Auto Show in April. This time around, Mazda Malaysia introduced the CX-8 in locally-assembled variants. The new large SUV slots between the CX-5 and CX-9.
In essence, the CX-8 like all current Mazdas take up the undeniable Kodo design to go with its 7-seater configuration. Mazda opts for a more aggressive front with a sharper and low look emphasis. Highlights include a newly-designed grille with chrome bars, piano black garnishes and chrome-plated mouldings. From the side and rear, the large SUV presents a sleek all-around profile for SUV enthusiasts.
Inside, the CX-8 is all about space and creature comforts. The second row can sit three large adults comfortably, while the third row accommodates passengers who are not more than 170cm tall, perfect for Japanese and Asians in general. Boot space is obviously ample as it is a large SUV, the CX-8’s rear doors open up to 80º for added convenience when loading or unloading large items or even attaching, detaching or adjusting a child seat.
Thanks to much improved insultation abd vibration-dampening material, the cabin offers very quiet ambience which is perfect for family trips or excursions. In addition, there’s a reduction in the gap between the roof moulding and roof spoiler to reduce wind noise. There is sound absorbing materials to improve NVH levels as well.
There are three types of seat configuration for passengers’ comfort. Your Mazda Connect is standard for all kinds of connectivity. Depending on variant, the CX-8 is decked with black leather seats, or babric. Standard equipment on the SUV includes triple-zone Climate Control with adjustable rear air-conditioning vents and power adjustable seat for the driver.
The New Mazda CX-8 comes with 2.5L 2WD and 2.2L diesel AWD versions. All variants are paired to a 6-Speed automatic gearbox with Manual Shift mode.
Driving dynamics and Safety
Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control (GVC) is standard on the CX-8, as with most current models for 2019.
In terms of standard safety, all variants come equipped with 6 SRS Airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution, Brake Assist and Traction Control System. Emergency Stop Signal, Hill Launch Assist and Impact Absorbing Bonnet. The highlight here is the i-ACTIVSENSE suite which offers Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Smart City Brake Support (SCBS).
The Mazda CX-8 is offered in 6 colors: Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver and Jet Black. Prices have not yet been determined due to approval delays.
