Mazda Malaysia (Bermaz Motor) today unveiled the much-anticipated Mazda CX-5 and Mazda6 Diesel models during a preview drive session for the media. The new Mazda CX-5 and Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D models mark the first time that Mazda Malaysia is offering diesel models in their ever-expanding passenger car line-up. Apart from the two production models, Mazda Malaysia is also experimenting with the Mazda CX-3 1.5-liter with SKYACTIV-D for future production consideration.
Both locally-assembled Mazda CX-5 2.2-liter and Mazda6 2.2-liter include the much-coveted SKYACTIV-D engine, which is considered the most efficient and environmentally friendly diesel engines. The diesel engine is paired to a seamless 6-speed automatic transmission. The Mazda SKYACTlV-D diesel engines have achieved amazing breakthroughs to resolve long-standing issues such as very inefficient cold-starts. In the process, Mazda have been able to offer smaller, lighter, more powerful engines capable of unheard torque output for the engine sizes (the 2.2-liter produces 420 Nm of torque equal to a 4.0-liter V8 petrol engine and yet boasts of fuel economy that has been improved by 20 percent).
In looks, both CX-5 and Mazda6 are almost identical to their petrol-engined siblings. The KODO – Soul of Motion is the primary design language for both diesel-spec CX-5 and Mazda6. The CX-5, being the best-selling model in Malaysia, still sets the standard in the mid-sized Crossover SUV segment in the domestic market. The Mazda CX-5 has earned an unprecedented collection of awards all over the world, including in some of the toughest, most matured and discerning markets. A very special achievement for the Mazda CX-5 is the ID Power Appeal Award. The Mazda6, which has been facelifted earlier this year, continues to appeal to its targeted audience against the likes of the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and prevalent D-segment contenders.
In addition, the Mazda CX-5 2.2-liter and Mazda6 2.2-liter SKYACTIV-D incorporate a long list of impressive technologies and assistance systems. The safety features list comprises of the i-ACTIVSENSE suite, which consists of the Lane-Departure Warning (Mazda6 only), Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM).
Mazda CX-5 and Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D are already available for bookings at dealerships nationwide. The CX-5 goes for RM 161,529 and the Mazda6 runs from 202,830, minus insurance. Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D is offered in four body hues; Soul Red Metallic, Snowflake White Pearl, Meteor Grey and Sonic Silver Metallic, and the 2WD CX-5 is also presented in four color options; Aluminum Metallic, Arctic White, Blue Reflex and Meteor Grey.
