Mazda6 wins red dot design award The new Mazda6 recently went on its first roadtrip at the Mid Valley Megamall in the capital city. Domestic distributors Bermaz Motor/Mazda Malaysia exhibited the Mazda6 Sedan and the sleek Mazda6 Grand Tourer, and at the same time let the curious crowd at one of the largest malls in KL go goo-goo,ga-ga over the aesthetically-refined Mazda6.

The new Mazda6 have received further accolades for its contemprary ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design – the 2013 red dot award. red dot award is an internationally recognized prize for outstanding design and one of the world’s largest design competitions. Prizes are granted for product design, design concept and communication design. red dot award was started by a German-based organization, Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in 1955.

This year, the new Mazda6 beat 4,662 entries by 1,865 manufacturers from 54 countries for the coveted award. The 37-head jury of independent design experts, who judged entries according to nine criteria, honored the KODO-design Mazda6 for qualities such as its high level of design innovation. Based on the Takeri concept, the new Mazda6 – the company’s second KODO model – features the full range of ground-breaking SKYACTIV Technology to deliver Mazda’s distinctive “Jinba Ittai” one-with-the-car feeling. Embodying the Sustainable Zoom-Zoom vision in its most advanced form yet, Mazda’s latest flagship delivers class-leading fuel economy, performance and safety.

Other design-related recognitions for the Zoom-Zoom marque included the Mazda CX-5, winning the 2012 Auto Bild European Design Award, and the Takeri Concept, taking top honors in the concept car category at last year’s German Design Council’s Automotive Brand Contest.

“We were aiming with the new Mazda6 to awaken the observer’s senses and turn heads with an uncompromising balance and proportion that instantly makes one want to get in the car and drive,” Mazda European R&D Center’s Chief designer Peter Birtwhistle explained. “The red dot award for product design is a very prestigious testimony to what we have achieved at Mazda with the bold expressions personified by KODO.”

On 1 July at the Aalto Theatre in Essen, DE; the Mazda6 will receive its due “red dot” symbol as a seal of design excellence.
