|McLaren 570S Coupe is slated for a world premiere at the upcoming New York Auto Show, highlighting its DNA with the McLaren Super Series and Ultimate Series that sit above it in the range hierarchy.|
In looks, the McLaren’s latest pure sports car has that familiar ‘face’ seen on variants in the Super series and Ultimate series. This unique and striking appearance has been designed by air, with a bespoke aerodynamic package including aero blades below the front bumper giving a purposeful stance while channelling clean, cold air through the lower leading edge of the bodywork. Furthermore, large ultra-bright LED headlights, fitted as standard to all Sports series, flank a sculpted bonnet which channels airflow over the front wheel arches.
Profile-wise, the intricately designed dihedral doors and a McLaren design signature since the iconic F1, possess a 3-D form including a ‘floating’ door tendon which houses a discreet door button. This unique feature divides the airflow, channelling it into the side intakes and underneath the flying buttresses. This architectural structure ensures drag is minimized along the profile of the 570S, while also optimizing levels of cooling and downforce.
From rear, the teardrop-shaped glasshouse form part of the aero package and of course, the aluminium mesh, exposed engine bay lends the 570S an impressionable back view. Then, there’s the fixed rear spoiler, LED light blade rear lights which follow the form of the sculpted panels, and finally the twin exhausts and rear diffuser.
The exterior, as always, is matched to a driver-centric interior, particular the cabin with its leather sport seats, engaging dashboard and leather-trimmed steering. A sports car with storage space is emphasized for the 570S as this sports car features 150 liters of storage capacity at the front; in case anyone wants to know.
Interior highlights include full infotainment system with new TFT digital instrument cluster and a seven-inch IRIS touchscreen thats mounted on a ‘floating’ center console. With the Sports series, an even greater variety of interior customization is available with a variety of factory available Alcantara, nappa leather and carbon fiber options.
In addition, McLaren designers have created a range of ‘By McLaren’ bespoke interior specifications, similar to those also available on the 675LT, teaming carefully selected colors and materials designed to best showcase the stylish cabin space and coordinate with each exterior paint color. Optional items for the audio and entertainment purposes come in the form of the 8-Speaker system or bespoke Bowers & Wilkins 12-Speaker Premium Audio system with 1280W surround sound.
As a pure sports car, the 570S Coupe’s 3.8 liters V8 twin turbo has a power output of 570PS (562bhp), 600 Nm of torque between 5,000 – 6,500 rpm and a 0 – 100 km/h sprint of 3.2 seconds, along with a top speed of 328 km/h (204mph). Power is delivered through a seven-speed SSG transmission, and transferred to the road through the rear wheels. This power is brought under control with standard-fit carbon ceramic brakes, fitted behind a newly designed range of forged alloy wheel options with P Zeros: 225/35/R19, front and 285/35/R20, rear. Fuel consumption and emissions are 11 liters/100km (25.5mpg) on the combined cycle and 258g/km, respectively.
Overall weight of the McLaren 570S is only 1,313 kilograms, thanks to lightweight structure and aluminium body panels. Further chassis refinements for the sports car include the newly developed suspension system with independent adaptive dampers and front and rear anti-rollbars, as well as dual wishbones. Drive modes available for the McLaren 570S Coupe consist of ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Track’ handling settings.
