|About a month after revealing the McLaren MP4-12C and 12C Spider, McLaren Kuala Lumpur today previewed one of two already sold units of the Super Sports P1. Tomorrow, the McLaren P1 heads for the land of the Rising Sun.|
The McLaren P1, limited to 375 units around the globe, debut at August’s Goodwood Festival of Speed where McLaren F1 drivers Jenson Button and Sergio Perez got the first privileges to drive it around a bit. Through September, the final developments for the production-intent McLaren P1 were sped up. McLaren Automotive practically accelerated the final phase for the P1’s first deliveries to selected countries.
McLaren P1 more than just a step up from the McLaren F1
Fitted with a twin powerplant powertrain generating 916 PS (903 bhp) from the highly efficient 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 petrol engine and the lightweight electric motor, the McLaren P1 storms from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, and hits 200 km/h (124 mph) in 6.8 seconds. At the same time, instant torque by the electric motors and optimized turbos enable the Super Sports to go up to 300 km/h in 16.5 secs, that’s 5.5 secs faster than the previous McLaren F1, and reach a top speed of 350 km/h (electronically limited).
Despite these astounding numbers, the P1 still returns 8.3l/100km on the EU combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 194 g/km. The electric motor offers a range of 11 km in full electric mode on the NEDC cycle, which sees emissions drop to zero. Quite recently, McLaren Automotive affirmed the P1’s numbers: 0 – 100 km/h in 2.8 s, up to 200 km/h in 6.8 s and 300 km/h in 16.5 s.
The McLaren P1 preview also marked McLaren KL flagship showroom’s official opening. Located at Menara Mudajaya, Mutiara Damansara, McLaren KL’s showroom is supported by the McLaren KL Service Center, which is located at the Auto Hub, Temasya Industrial Park, Glenmarie in Shah Alam. The McLaren Service Center houses a fully-equipped two-bay workshop, where the McLaren Technology Center-trained technical staff would take care of these precious Super Sports cars.
