Following the introduction of the CLA Class at the recent Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix, MBM (Mercedes-Benz Malaysia) has followed it up by adding the top-of-the-range CLA 45 AMG to its luxury four-door Coupe line-up. The CLA 45 AMG practically inherits the philosophy of the successful CLS 63 AMG; the larger four-door coupe. Mercedes’ latest four-coupe offers a unique combination of a fascinatingly sporty driving experience, extravagant design and maximum individuality.

Already an exemplary luxury compact four-door Coupe on its own, the CLA 45 AMG now features the BlueDIRECT turbo engine, all-wheel drive and AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. And, this AMG version is one of the core vehicles of the Mercedes-Benz’s AMG Edition 1. Special equipment are aplenty for the CLA 45 AMG, including AMG front and rear aprons and side sill panels; black-painted multi-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels; the signature diamond radiator grille (silver on black louvre); chrome inserts; Bi-xenon headlights; and sports suspension with lowered body.

Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG in Light Aluminium or Carbon-Fiber trim

Available in Light Aluminium trim or Carbon-fiber trim, the CLA 45 AMG boasts an expanded range of exterior motifs such as AMG “twin-blade” radiator grille in matt titanium grey, AMG front fascia with front splitter in matt titanium grey, large side cooling air intakes with black flics, and “TURBO AMG” lettering on front wing. From the rear, the AMG rear fascia with stylized side air outlets and chrome-plated double rectangular exhausts immediately differentiate the CLA 45 AMG from its regular counterpart. Lastly, the distinguishing LED rear lights truly make the CLA 45 AMG stand out amongst sporty four-door coupes.

Interior-wise, the cabin’s trim elements in longitudinal-grain aluminium and a 3-spoke nappa leather multifunction sports steering with a flattened lower section and perforations in the grip sector, as well as red seats all round off the vehicle’s dynamic presence. High-quality touches in both high-performance cars include the sports seats in ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfiber with red contrasting topstitching and red seat belts, the multifunction sports steering wheel with shift paddles, and the AMG Drive Unit with E-Select lever.

The CLA 45 AMG is distinguishable by the instrument panel trim in brushed aluminium and five galvanized ventilation outlets. Furthermore, the AMG instrument cluster in the CLA 45 AMG has a 2-tube look. The central color display incorporates the AMG main menu including RACETIMER. On opening the door, the driver is greeted by the AMG start-up screen. Numerous individualization options are available for both the light aluminium and carbon-fiber trim.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG is powered by the most powerful 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo powerplant with charge pressure of 1.8 bar that enables 360 hp and up to 450 Nm of torque. On a side note, the power density of 181 hp puts the AMG high-performance turbo engine on par with the world’s most able sports cars. Paired to an AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive and 7G-DCT SpeedShift automatic transmission, the CLA 45 AMG does 0 – 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h, that’s electronically limited. Fuel consumption and emissions are taken into consideration as well, the CLA 45 AMG is rated 6.9 liters per 100 km(NEDC combined) and 161-165 g/km. The fuel efficiency is light even for a 4-door coupe speedster due to the combination of the efficient twin-scroll turbocharger and the AMG sports exhaust system with exhaust flap (similar to the SLK 55 AMG).

Handling and stability of this sporty four-door coupe come in the form of the front MacPhersons with stiff steering knuckles and new elastokinematics, as well as the four-link rear axle.

While the CLA is retailed from a starting price of RM 235,000, the AMG version hits the ceiling for the variant at RM 392, 888 for Light Aluminium trim and RM 395,888 for the Carbon-fiber trim.
