Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has reported a 24 percent spike in their first half year performance or 4,536 units from 3,646 units, same period last year. The largest contributor for MBM (Mercedes-Benz Malaysia) consistent performance was attributed to Passenger cars, which saw a 48 percent hike or 3,366 units of 4,536 units. Mercedes-Benz achieved 783,520 vehicles globally in the first half of the year; the Stuttgart marque’s strongest half-year performance yet.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA and S-Class, which were introduced in March this year, are the major contributors to MBM’s solid first half performance. The S-Class achieved a 126 percent growth, cementing its status as the best car in the world, while the CLA Class reached a 7 percent uptrend up till June. Aside from the two aforementioned Class-es, the A- and E-Class variants were the other popular choices in MBM’s vehicles line-up.

In the commercial vehicles side, MBM captured a 35 per cent increase from 66 units in 1H2013 to 89 units this year, thanks to fleet deals with major haulage companies such as Hexagon High Transport Sdn Bhd, Interway Transport Sdn Bhd and Swift Haulage Sdn Bhd. The FUSO division, though, reported a slight dip of 17 percent. from 1,306 to 1,081 units, due to the completion of the government privatization waste management project.

Roland Folger, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia President and CEO, commented, “I am most pleased with our performance for the first half of the year. This uptrend is expected to continue into the second half. It is a direct result of our various investments internally, as well as our extensive dealer network. All our recently launched variants have been well received by the Malaysian market. In addition, our 4-year extended warranty Program which came into effect last year is getting good response from customers.”

“It has been a most exciting first half. From the Mercedes-Benz S400L Hybrid qualifying and receiving full duty exemptions; to breaking ground on our new customized warehouse located in the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) Automotive Industrial Park in Pekan, Pahang; to having the honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia officiate the 30th anniversary celebrations of our Apprentice Training Center in Glenmarie, Shah Alam,” he added.

MBM remains highly committed to the Malaysian market by virtue of continuous support to its current dealers and increasing the number of dealerships nationwide in the coming years. With the local assembly of the S400L Hybrid in full flight, MBM hopes to contribute in helping the country fulfill its ambition of becoming a regional EEV hub. MBM has the largest service network amongst premium automotive brands in the country, with a total of 32 dealers and 29 service centers.
