Mercedes-Benz Malaysia achieves sales spike in third quarter

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia top line-ups Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has maintained an uptrend in sales for the third quarter of the year. Following a consistent first half of 2014, MBM (Mercedes-Benz Malaysia) has recorded a 16 per cent rise in year-on-year sales for the third quarter. As at September 2014, the Three-point Star has accumulated a total of 6,642 units in vehicle sales, an increase from 5,747 units during the same period last year.

MBM’s continued growth was mainly attributed to its passenger car segment, which attained sales of 4,817 units, a 28 per cent increase from 2013. The key drivers behind the success of MBM this year has been its core variants, namely the C-, E-, and S-classes. Additionally, the A- and CLA-Class, part of the new generation Compact car range, have contributed another 1,253 units to the overall sales numbers.

The grand variant that came through for MBM’s third quarter sales spurt was none other than the S400L Hybrid, a variant which had received full duty exemptions in May. Sales of the S400L Hybrid picked up almost four times, following the tax-exemption price announcement.

Roland Folger, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, commented, “Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has had an outstanding season so far. With three passenger car launches to date this year, and a phenomenal record for the S400L Hybrid, it has certainly been encouraging to see the positive response we have witnessed so far. With the recently introduced C-Class last month, which was very well received, we expect to maintain this upward trend for the rest of 2014.”

In the commercial vehicles’ side of things, sales of heavy duty commercial vehicles achieved a 60 per cent increase from 100 to 160 units this year. Meanwhile, despite the majority of fleet purchases being completed last year, the FUSO marque has chalked up sales of 1,665 units; down 220 units compared to last year. The slight decline doesn’t stop the Commercial vehicle marque from closing out the year with a big bang. The brand is preparing a grand final draw of its Diamond FUSO contest in the final month of the year. Trucks registered from 1 December 2013 till 30 November 2014 are eligible for the lucky draw with grand prizes worth up to RM430,000, and a brand new Mercedes-Benz C200 up for grabs.

MBM is confident about maintaining its sales uptrend momentum into the final months of the year.
