Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's top variants for 2014_2 Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has reached an uptrend of 17 percent in total sales for 2014 thanks to a fourth quarter surge of 46 percent. MBM tallied as many as 9,419 units for the year for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles, with 900 units on a monthly basis in the fourth quarter alone.

For passenger cars, MBM’s double-digit sales increase was led by annual retail volumes which accounted for 6,932 units (up 29 percent), compared to 5,388 units of the previous year. Thanks to a relatively high demand for the C-, E- and S-Class variants, total registered cars for the year accounted for 4,575 units; an 11 percent rise from 2013. Also leading the sales charge were the CLA- and GLA-class, Mercedes-Benz’s New Generation Compact Car (NGCC). Both NGCC variants contributed 2,322 units; that’s a 100 percent spike year-on-year. And thanks to the AMG versions of the A-, CLA-, GLA-Class and related variants, MBM proudly indicated that Malaysia has climbed up to 12th rank in the world’s markets for AMG-decked cars. Another phenomenal variant that helped boost MBM’s 2014 sales was the S-Class, Mercedes-Benz’s flagship that redefines the luxury benchmark. The S-Class accumulated 635 units, an increase of 388 percent year-on-year!

Roland Folger, President and CEO of MBM, commented, “This past year has been incredible for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia in every way. We saw record sales, especially in the passenger car segment. We flexed our muscles across the entire product line with the NGCC portfolio and brought customer experience to an all-time high.”

MBM also achieved a 23 percent uprise for commercial vehicles, with the FUSO brand garnering a little over 2,000 units for the year.

Major highlights for the year  for MBM included dealerships’ expansion and refurbishment, namely the debut of the RM 60 million Hap Seng Star Autohaus in Balakong and the RM 10 million upgrade of Hap Seng Star’s Kinrara Autohaus in Puchong. Aside from investments to further boost its dealer network, MBM continued its support for the nation’s aspirations in becoming an energy-efficient vehicle (EEV) hub with a RM15 million investment in its Pekan production plant. The investments readied its assembly line for the S400L Hybrid which received full duty exemptions following its launch in March 2014.

Other key MBM highlights for the year included the 30-year celebration of its Apprentice Training Center, Local Chapter’s Skills Competition, STYLO Fashion Grand Prix during the Formula 1 Malaysian GP, Mobilekids, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) Short + Sweet Malaysia film festival and Laureus World Sports Awards.
