Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today presented the sportiest C-Class of all, the C-Class Coupé, at the Sepang International Circuit. Members of the media got the opportunity to perform short spurts with the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe on the newly resurfaced Formula 1 track.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe comes in three variants: the C200 Coupe, C250 Coupe and C300 Coupe. Each variant shares an athletic profile and striking overall impression with a wealth of interior refinements and a similar engine displacement. The engine displacement is a typical 1,991cc, 4-cylinder that provides between 184 – 245 hp and 300 – 370 Nm of torque.
At a glance, the C-Class Coupe takes up the familiar diamond radiator grille and long bonnet which flow into a slim and tight rear. A high beltline and frameless doors with free-standing exterior mirrors underscore the Coupe’s sporty character. At the same time, clean lines and sensually arranged surfaces structure the side sections into vivid light and shadow effects. One particular highlight is the long drawn-out dropping line typical of a Coupé. To underscore the Coupé’s sporty disposition, the suspension is 15 millimeters lower than the C-Class sedan, giving it a very sporty stance when combined with the 18-inch AMG 5-spoke wheels on the C 200 Coupé and 19-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels in the C 250 Coupé and C 300 Coupé. As an aerodynamically-savvy model, the new C-Class Coupé boasts a Cd value of 0.26.
The interior of the C-Class Coupe is presented in a youthful and plush representation. Flowing forms characterize the center console as well as the door and rear side panelling, along with individually combined trim elements. A seating system including integral sports seats designed specifically for the Coupé offers sporty comfort, while an automatic belt extender also offers convenience. The unique position of the new C-Class Coupé is emphasized by the special upholstery color combinations of saddle brown and black and porcelain. Other fascinating interior highlights include special bumpers and sills, upholstery in ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfiber, a multifunction & flat bottom sports steering, AMG sports pedals, and a dashboard and doors with a combination of black ash and aluminium.
All Mercedes models are renowned for its multimedia system, and the C-Class Coupe is no exception. Hence, the C-Class Coupe is equipped with the Burmester sound system (C250 and C300 Coupes come standard). The Audio 20 CD (available in C 200 Coupé and C 250 Coupé) and COMAND Online all offer basic telephony as standard, which links up a mobile phone to the vehicle via a Bluetooth interface. And that’s not all, a Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone with data option and tethering feature is all it takes to make even the Audio 20 system internet-capable. Additionally, COMAND Online in the C 300 Coupé provides not only a larger display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, it also allows digital TV/radio reception and, in addition to many other features, offers fast hard-disc navigation, integral W-LAN hotspot functionality and LINGUATRONIC voice control.
The suspension of the new C-Class Coupé offers a high level of comfort with low road roar and tyre vibration whilst ensuring agile driving dynamics. A new 4-link front axle with wheel suspension decoupled from the spring strut plays a part in the agile handling characteristics. Two suspensions with selective damping are available, the AGILITY CONTROL, standard across the range, and Sports suspension on the C250 and C300 Coupes. There are five drive modes to suit the driver’s preference at any time via the Dynamic Select switch: “ECO”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport +” and “Individual”.
Thanks to Intelligent lightweight construction with a higher proportion of aluminium, the C-Class Coupe is lighter than its predecessor. And coupled with a list of comprehensive driver’s assistance systems and safety features, the C-Class Coupe has it all. The driver’s assistance systems comprises: ATTENTION ASSIST with adjustable sensitivity, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, Adaptive Brake Assist, Radar Sensors and Stereo Camera. For safety, in addition to 3-point seat belts with pyrotechnical belt tensioning and belt-force limitation for driver, front passenger and rear passengers, numerous airbags serve to protect the vehicle’s occupants in an accident.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe starts with the C 200 Coupe at a listed price of RM 308,888, C 250 Coupe at RM 333,888 and C 300 Coupe at RM 388,888. For colors availability and greater details on the C-Class Coupe, visit your nearest Mercedes-Benz dealership.
