Mercedes-Benz Malaysia releases new E-Class in AVANTGARDE trims

 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, E250 Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today released the updated E-Class for the domestic market. The new E-Class, E250 and E200, amalgamates updated exterior motifs, a more efficient engine, a plethora of assistance systems, and a host of ‘intelligent drive’ features.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class exterior motifs

In looks, the new Mercedes E-Class has a sporty demeanor with sharper edges all-around. At the front, the fascia includes the unmistakable stout grille with the Three-point Star emblem, a redesigned front bumper, a curvaceous hood, a spoiler-typed lip, and revised headlights with single lenses and dipped-beamed LED daytime running lights; a first for the E-Class.

From the new E-Class’ side, a feature line and re-positioned three-dimensional trim strip give the new E-Class visually exciting proportions. The feature line runs below the structure line from the rear door through to the rear light. The E-Class has a longer wheelbase, but more importantly retains its composed outlook much like its predecessor. For the rear end, lights and bumper have been revised; the rearlights comprise of horizontally structured LED lights with new two-tone look.

Interior-wise, the new E-Class is presented in a harmoninious and practical manner. High-quality materials and refined, subdivided areas with precise joints and sharp curves underscore the overall impression of the E-Class’ generous interior. A new feature is the two-part trim with Black Ash wood which stretches across the entire dashboard. Also new are the 3-tube instrument cluster, the trapezoid-shaped, high-gloss framed display in the head unit with flat-frame look, the design of the air vents as well as an analogue clock between the two central air vents. Relevant interior highlights include a new look center console without selector lever and a new multi-function steering wheel with Direct Select lever and tiptronic shifters.

The interior’s high-quality appointments for the E-Class consist of the COMAND Online multimedia system which includes a 17.8 cm high-resolution color display that allows internet connection when the car is stationary. The touch screen is also able to perform hard-disc navigation and DVD playbacks.

Mercedes E-Class powerplant and Intelligent Drive

A 2.0-liter BlueDIRECT 4-cylinder petrol engine is instilled for both models; the E200 and E250. The engine is mated to a 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. The E200 is able to churn 184 hp at 5500 rpm and produces a torque of 300 Nm between 1200 – 1400 rpm, while the E250 goes up to 211 hp and 350 Nm. It takes 7.9 seconds for the E200 to go from 0 – 100km and 7.4 secs for the E250. Fuel efficiency-wise, both models stand at 5.8l per 100km.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is gifted an impeccable stability, coupled with extraordinary handling, thanks to the sportily configured Direct Control suspension with selective damping system, which is positioned 15mm lower as standard. The independent front suspension is made up of coil spring, double-tube gas pressure shock absorber with SSD and tubular torsion bar. The rear suspension takes up independent multi-links.

The electromechanical Direct-steer system, meanwhile, also contributes to the car’s overall handling, and at the same time, the rack and pinion steering gear is controlled on-demand and therefore contributes towards efficiency. New and improved assistance systems, part of the Intelligent drive derivative, consist the Collision Prevention Assist with adaptive brake assist, Attention Assist and Active Parking Assist.
