Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has unveiled the all-new E-Class in three contemporary Lines: E 200 Avantgarde, E 250 Avant garde/Exclusive and the top flight E 300 AMG. The new Mercedes E-Class is a further step in the evolution of safety, comfort and performance as well as design and luxury.
Deemed the most intelligent sedan in the premium segment, the E-Class carries Mercedes’ modern luxury hallmark, craftsmanship and exclusivity with a lot of pride. At a glance, the elongated bonnet coupled with a coupé-like roof flowing into a sensual, broad-shouldered tail end creates an exciting silhouette. The powerfully extended vehicle body of the new E-Class is characterized by short overhangs, a long wheelbase, large wheels and taut well-defined flanks displaying a fresh, stylish and dynamic interpretation of the feature line.
Looking at the front, the Exclusive line (E 250) takes up the classic Mercedes radiator grille with the star on the bonnet while the E 200 Avant garde and E 300 AMG Line variants are identifiable by the sports radiator grille with a large Mercedes star. High-resolution MULTIBEAM LED headlights are standard across the board.
From the rear, broad shoulders above the wheel arches lend the E-Class its unmistakably powerful character. Single-piece rear lights featuring a two-bar design framed by the vehicle body clearly identify the E-Class as a new member of the Mercedes family. The rear lights provide an additional highlight reminiscent of stardust, the “Milky Way” or the glow of a jet engine.
Compared with its predecessor, its wheelbase length has grown by 65 millimeters (2939/2874), its overall length by 43 mm (4923/4880). The resulting increase in space is to the benefit of all passengers. The basis for agile handling characteristics is provided by an increased track width (extra 20 mm at the front, extra 7 mm at the rear). With minor exceptions, the boot capacity has been maintained at the level of the previous generation.
The interior of the new E-Class embodies the synthesis of emotion and intelligence. It includes two brilliant next-generation high-resolution displays, each with a wide screen diagonal of 12.3 inches, unique in this segment. Beneath their shared glass cover, the two displays visually conflate into a wide-screen cockpit that seems to be hovering in thin air, creating a central element that emphasizes the horizontal orientation of the interior design. As the instrument cluster, this wide-screen cockpit contains a large display with virtual instruments in the direct field of vision of the driver as well as a central display above the center console that displays choice of preferred look: Classic, Sport or Progressive.
As the entire cockpit is fully digital, the driver is free to configure the information and views and thus create their own personal cockpit. The multifunction steering receives unique touch control buttons in the control panels on the left and right. Further controls for the infotainment system are provided in the shape of a Touchpad with Controller in the center console, which can even recognize handwriting, and the LINGUATRONIC voice control system. There are also direct-access buttons for controlling functions such as air-conditioning or convenient activation and deactivation of certain driving assistance systems; for the first time.
A new, intelligent graphic design with high-resolution visualizations and animations, together with a simplified logic, further enhances this all-new operating experience. At the same time, the occupants enjoy a sensual interior with spacious architecture, which combines the elegance of the luxury class with sportiness. Luxurious materials are laid out throughout the cabin in the form of open-pore woods, leather in shades of brown and color combinations, LED lighting, just to name a few. Other highlights include COMAND Onine (an all-new infotainment system), rear bench seat, which comes with the option of a three-piece backrest with a 40%/20%/40% split, center armrest with a stowage box and two pop-out cup holders, as well as an optional holder for a tablet at the rear.
Fitted as standard, the Mercedes-Benz-developed Frontbass system in the new E Class delivers a unique listening experience. It uses the space in the cross-member and side member of the body structure as a resonance chamber for the bass speakers. The Burmester surround sound system with 13 high-performance speakers in the E300 are precisely configured for the vehicle interior to ensure a well-balanced and very dynamic music reproduction.
The new E-Class comes with a range of petrol engines comprise four-cylinder versions with outputs ranging from 183 to 245 hp. The E 200 model will be available at launch with a four-cylinder petrol engine rated at 184 hp with a torque of 300 Nm. Further model variants will be added to the range including the E 250 rated at 211 hp with a torque of 350 Nm, and the E 300 rated at 245 hp with a torque of 370 Nm. All engines for the new E-Class are equipped with the ECO start/stop function, and equipped as standard with the new 9G TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission.
The suspension on the new E-Class offers agile driving pleasure on twisting roads as well as the highest level of ride comfort in this segment. All variants come with AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system and lowering to ensure a well-balanced ride comfort on any road surface. With the DYNAMIC SELECT switch in the cockpit, the driver can select from the four modes “Comfort”, “ECO”, “Sport” and “Sport +”, as well as an “Individual” option.

Ensuring an outstandingly stiff body to offer exceptional handling, astonishingly low noise and vibration levels and a high level of crash safety, the new E-Class receives a bodyshell with a far higher proportion of aluminium and ultra-high-strength steel components than its predecessor. The front wings, bonnet, boot lid, and large sections of the front and rear ends are made of sheet or cast aluminium.
