Mercedes-Benz reveals new CLA-Class variants in Berlin

mercedes-benz-reveals-cla-class-variants-berlin Mercedes-Benz has revealed the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class variant at its home country of Deutschland, in the capital city Berlin.

Boasting dimensions of 4,630 mm in length, 2,032 mm in width and standing 1,348 mm tall, the CLA, which is almost identical to Volkswagen’s CC in size, shares the same MFA (Mercedes Front-wheel drive Architecture platform as its A-Class sibling and takes styling cues from the five-door hatchback, displaying a similar mix of fluidity and muscularity.

The CLA-class’ front fascia takes on an aggressive diamond-look grille, LED-infused headlights and speaker-like intakes at the bottom section, while the sides has frameless side windows, a silhouette that resembles the CLS-class and well defined shoulder lines. At the rear, the muscular one-piece fascia, intakes and wrapped-around LED combination lights express the CLA’s Coupe impression. Fair-sized 17-inch 5-spoke wheels complete the CLA-class standard motifs. All these elements equate to a co-efficient drag of just 0.23. For a sportier CLA, get the optional Sport package which comprises 18-inch AMG wheels, lower suspension, sport styling and perforated front discs.

Inside, the Mercedes-Benz CLA carries standard equipment like a 5.8-inch multimedia display, Attention Assist, Brake hold function and Hill-Start Assist and radar-based Collision Prevention Assist. Optional interior add-ons include high-resolution 7-inch display with COMAND system, satellite radio, a surround sound system, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control and auto dimming mirrors.

The CLA 250 and CLA 250 4MATIC will be offered at launch in the U.S., with power coming from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine, producing 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque, which is mated to a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. Europe gets a wider choice of engines, starting with the CLA 180 and CLA 200, which develop 122 hp and 156 hp respectively from a fuel-injected 1.6-liter unit combined with a six-speed manual. The CLA 2.2l 220 CDI (diesel variant) combined with a 7G-DCT gearbox is able to achieve an exceptional 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

Available in the second quarter of 2013, the CLA or infant CLS starts from a retail price of €28,977.
