Mercedes-Benz will be presenting the newest variants of the GLE-Class at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The GLE Coupe and Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe are the stars at the Messe Frankfurt. The GLE is part of eight Mercedes-Benz SUV line-up which comprises GLA, GLC, GLC Coupé, G-Class and GLB.

Let’s start with the GLE Coupe, one of Mercedes’ flagship SUV’s the GLE gets a stronger emphasis on the coupé-specific elegance and sportiness. Aside from looks, the car has improved aerodynamics (9% better than previous GLE). All signature elements, including standard full LED headlights and slim two-part rearlights, are in tact.

Inside, contemporary luxury of a sporty nature offers a more comfortable amount of space than its predecessor.The GLE Coupe houses a  latest generation of the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system, with its intuitive operating structure and brilliant graphics with a high visual quality.

The modern cockpit takes up two large screens in the format 12.3 inches /31.2 cm and the strikingly shaped instrument panel, horizontally divided by a trim element tier, and seamlessly flowing into the door trim.

The two diesel-engined GLE Coupé models are powered by the current six-cylinder in-line engine. It is available in two output levels, as the GLE Coupé350 d 4MATIC rated at 200 kW (272 hp) and 600 Nm and as the GLE Coupé 400 d 4MATIC rated at 243 kW (330 hp) and 700 Nm torque.

In the chassis department, the GLE Coupe has an optional AIRMATIC air suspension and E-Active Body Control active suspension running on 48 V that meets the most discerning requirements regarding vehicle dynamics and comfort on and off the road. It is specially tuned for vehicle dynamics, through to a more direct steering ratio than on the other cars in this model series. Coupled with the full-blown Driver Assistance Systems, the GLE Coupe is ever alert and Omnipresent.

The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé

Being an AMG, the GLE 53 gets the AMG-specific radiator grille that visually accentuates the SUV. The AMG-specific radiator grille comes with 15 vertical fins ensures an autonomous appearance, as do the front apron, A-wing, front splitter, side skirts, vehicle-colored spoiler lip and new rear apron. The AMG GLE 53 wheel sizes consist options between 20 – 22-inches.

There are more AMG specifics on the Interior from the steering to the seats. As a Mercedes SUV, there’s ample space for passengers and luggage.  

The AMG six-cylinder in-line engine with twin turbocharging and EQ-Boost achieves 320 kW (435 hp) and a max torque of 520 Nm. Additionally, there’s a 16 kW (22 hp) and 250 Nm of electric output; which works temporarily. Plus, it also offers hybrid functions such as overrun mode. The engine is paired to an AMG SpeedShift TCT 9-speed automatic transmission.

The AMG GLE 53 offers extensive safety features and impressive traction on all types of road conditions. On top of that, the top-of-the-line GLE got AMG Ride Control with air suspension, electro-mechanical roll stabilization and continuously variable adjustable damping. Then, there’s the AMG Dynamic Select with seven drive programs: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, Trail and Sand.

Both GLE Coupes are rolling out to European dealerships right after their Frankfurt Motor Show debut.
