|MINI Malaysia, a division of the BMW Group Malaysia, today announced the complete line-up of the John Cooper Work edition. The range consists of four John Cooper Works; the MINI John Cooper Works hatch, MINI John Cooper Works Coupé, MINI John Cooper Works Countryman and MINI John Cooper Works Paceman.|
The John Cooper Works element in the four MINIs is derived from the brand’s racing DNA, which essentially denote the MINIs are capable both on the race track and on the road. Testament to British performance, the MINIs in John Cooper Works guise are firm favorites amongst premium hothatch enthusiasts.
First up, the MINI John Cooper Works hatch is powered by a 1,598 cc four-cylinder turbocharged engine with an output of 211 hp. The John Cooper Works hatch comes standard with a six speed automatic transmission with Steptronic functions which allows manual intervention in the choice of gear – either using a selector lever in the central console or by means of shift paddles connected directly to the steering.
The MINI John Cooper Works hatch sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds with the top speed of 236 km/h. Average fuel consumption is 7.4 and the level of CO2 emissions is 165 grams per kilometer. In addition to the high-quality suspension with MacPherson spring struts at the front and the centrally guided rear axle that is quite unique in the subcompact segment, the Electric Power Steering is a further guarantee of safe and alluringly precise handling. The Electric Power Steering allows two control maps to be programmed. As an alternative to the balanced basic setting it is possible to select a dynamically oriented control map which provides higher levels of steering torque and increased precision. This is activated by the Sport Button which is positioned in front of the gearshift lever or selector lever in the center console. The Sport Button also influences the accelerator control map, the engine sound, and shortens gearshift times making for especially intensive acceleration manoeuvres.
The sports brake system, likewise a standard feature, contributes to maximum agility. It is based on an engineering principle derived from motor racing and involves such elements as 4-piston fixed calliper brakes with inner-vented discs at the front wheels. The sports brake system can be recognized by the aluminium brake callipers finished in red and bearing the John Cooper Works emblem. The exclusive fittings of the MINI John Cooper Works include 17-inch light-alloy wheels in Cross Spoke Challenge design.
Standard trim also includes the John Cooper Works aerodynamic kit with distinctive front and rear apron as well as specific side sills. The dual-pipe sports exhaust system not only creates a striking sound, it also adds a dash of visual flair with its centrally placed stainless steel tailpipes. A distinguishing mark both in the lower air inlet and at the rear of the vehicle is the John Cooper Works emblem. The John Cooper Works inscription appears on the side turn indicator surrounds in chrome and the door sill strips. In the interior, the standard fittings of the MINI John Cooper Works hatch boast an elegant factor which is both simple and sporty in style. A three-spoke sports steering wheel finished in leather with red contrast stitching and John Cooper Works emblem on the center spoke forms the interface between driver and sports machine. The MINI John Cooper Works also comes standard with MINI Visual Boost including MINI Connected, a Harman Kardon Sound System and Xenon Headlights.
Next to the Hatch, the MINI JCW Coupé comes as standard with a John Cooper Works aerodynamic kit comprising distinctive front and rear aprons and bespoke side skirts. It shares the same engine with the hatch, but accelerates 0 – 100km/h 0.3 seconds quicker and achieves 4km/h more top speed. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 7.4 l/100 km, giving CO2 emissions of 165 grams per km.
A sports exhaust system with twin stainless steel tailpipes positioned in the center of the rear apron gives the engine the soundtrack to match its character. Handling of the JCW Coupe relies on a front axle with MacPherson spring struts, central link rear suspension and Electric Power Steering with speed-sensitive power assistance.
The MINI John Cooper Works Coupé’s standard-fitted Sport Button allows the driver to adjust the car’s responses to a dynamic setting. Further performance oriented elements include; 17-inch wheels in Cross Spoke Challenge Design and the sports braking system, whose red painted aluminium calipers bear the John Cooper Works emblem. Another identifying feature is the sport seats leather lounge in championship red/ carbon black combination interior and a wide variety of in-car infotainment function offered by the MINI Visual Boost including MINI Connected with a Harman Kardon Sound system.
The third edition, the 5-door John Cooper Works Countryman is an all-wheel drive (ALL4) MINI that takes up a similar powertrain, 1.6 turbocharged engine and six-speed transmission, as the Hatch and Coupe. Power output increases by 7hp compared to the first two, while torque ranges from 280 – 300 Nm (with overboost). It does 0-100km/h in just 7.0 secs and gets up to a top speed of 223km/h. Meantime, fuel consumption rate is 8.3l/100km and emissions holds at 184 g/km.
The standard aerodynamics kit gives the JCW Countryman eye catching looks and optimizes the flow of air around its body by lending extra muscle to the front and rear apron and adding bespoke side skirts. Meanwhile, the John Cooper Works insignia stamps the car’s identity very literally on the radiator grille, tailgate, door sill strips and side indicator surrounds. Inside the car, the practicality of the MINI Countryman concept is laced with sporting flourishes. Sport seats with Lounge Leather trim in Carbon Black Championship Red add further depth to the interior while a sports steering wheel with red contrast stitching and John Cooper Works logo, a dark speedometer and rev counter dials, an anthracite-coloured roof liner, a gearshift lever knob with red shift diagram, red contrast stitching for the gearshift lever gaiter, and floor mats with red stitching all provide the driver with a performance-ready vehicle. MINI Visual Boost with MINI Connected, a Harman Kardon Speakers and Xenon Headlights are all fitted as standard in the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman.
Last, but not least the John Cooper Works Paceman is the MINI in a compact 3-door setup that blends a Sports Activity Coupé with the ALL4 all-wheel drive. The JCW Paceman gets a bold front end, stretched lines of the silhouette (with its long doors and side windows), the coupé-style roof swooping downwards towards the rear, and a broad rear end. Its performance-maxing character is further emphasized by an aerodynamic kit that comes as standard on the MINI JCW Paceman, along with lowered sports suspension and 19-inch Cross Spoke Crusher wheels.
The standard powertrain, 1.6l turbocharged and 6-speed transmission, powers the JCW Paceman up to 218 hp and 280 Nm of torque. While, the overboost function allows torque to be increased to 300 Newton metres for short periods between 2,100 and 4,500 rpm. Like the other JCW MINIs, the sports exhaust system provides this power delivery with a suitably stirring sound. It does zero to hundred in 6.9 secs and up to 224 km/h top speed. Fuel consumption and emissions rates are 8.3l/100 km and 184 g/km respectively. Suspensions, brakes, aerokits resemble those of the previous two JCW MINIs, though the sports suspension on the JCW Paceman is lowered 10mm.
Exterior-wise, the JCW Paceman has muscular front and rear aprons, bespoke side skirts, and customary JCW emblems on the radiator grille, tailgate and door sill strips as well as next to the side indicators. Other standard features of the MINI JCW Paceman is the 19-inch wheels in Cross Spoke Crusher design and MINI Visual Boost with MINI Connected, Harman Kardon Speakers and Xenon Headlights.
