The Mitsubishi Triton MIVEC Turbo Diesel was revealed in October last year as part of the six-variant Triton line-up. The Triton MIVEC features an aluminum alloy block 2.4-liter MIVEC Turbo Diesel engine with VGT Intercooler for a boost-up output and torque (181 PS and 430 Nm). At the same time, the updated Triton is more fuel efficient than ever (15 percent reduction). This new pick up from Mitsubishi is the first with diesel engine in the segment to use MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic control system) variable valve timing technology.
Thanks to the MIVEC powerplant in the Triton, the pick up now has a more efficient when firing up from long idles. Meantime, the MIVEC finely controls the valves to generate a much improved performance, and the use of lightweight aluminium alloy material on the engine block attains lower pressure in the combustion chamber. In addition, by using lightweight aluminum instead of a traditional cast iron material, the engine is about 30kg lighter.
The new Triton MIVEC has a much improved NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) level, thanks to the adoption of the new aluminium alloy material Additionally, the use of timing chain meant that maintenance cost is cut down, with a longer service lifespan.
